If you're advocating letting children go hungry for their parents' irresponsibility, I hope you're willing to pay extra healthcare costs for the health problems their malnutrition would cause. I hope you have a strong enough stomach to see stunted and emaciated kids begging on the street, and I hope you have the fortitude to turn a 6 year old girl away and tell her to get a job when she begs and cries to you for a bite to eat.
How about the American elderly who don't live on foodstamps and have to eat catfood paid with their meager SS check. Illegals get it all, the elderly didn't get a raise for two years and yet they have to struggle to pay their bills.. Food stamps bring up the cost of food.
These programs actually create wealth. For one thing, abolishing them would exclude millions from participating in the economy, which would slow down the economy. Secondly, the cost of ER visits, arrests, survival-motivated theft, and security systems far outstrips the cost of paying for welfare programs.
Most rich people are intelligent enough to realize that paying $36 a year for welfare programs more than pays for itself for these reasons. They also know that their life would be better if they don't have to step over emaciated people on the street and worry that their house will be ransacked by the starving, angry impoverished masses. If they didn't realize that, they'd just go and live in a third world country where life is much cheaper, but also much more dangerous and uncomfortable.
If you get rid of welfare in the US, what you are left with is a third world country.
11 million illegals manage to not go hungry, live in the streets .. the do very well and many do create wealth because the men work under the table and the women have anchor babies and get food stamps, housing, heat vouchers, medical care all FREE.
The men here in NJ get paid $20 an hour and that paycheck doesn't go on bills, as Americans have to pay for their housing, heat, medical and food.. the illegals are prospering as they use this system and cheat.. their under the table paycheck will buy them a nice vehicle and frills as they bank it and spend it courtesy of the United States.
Another problem with freebees is food stamps.. there are soo many food stamp recipients that the cost of food is going up and up.. you see, if people get it free , they just pick it up and put it in their cart.. if the price goes very high they still buy it. Its free!
When we paying customers have to pay for it and have to pay all our other bills we consider cost. We look at prices and we may pass on it or think it is outrageous to pay that much for it and buy it anyway because we have to eat.
Now the cost will go up as many will not pass on it, it is free and the product will be sold at a much higher price. Food stamps cause prices to rise.. especially so many food stamps chasing product.
Food stamps, subsidized housing, Medicaid, all that stuff...
It's there so that taxpayers can support corporations that pay wages too low for their workers to live on.
So what effect will the FairTax have on the different forms of corporate welfare?
First, we have to remember that one of the fundamental underpinnings of the FairTax is fairness; treating everyone the same, neither favoring one nor hindering others. Nor does the FairTax address anything other than the manner in which taxes are collected.
That said, the FairTax makes a powerful impact on corporate welfare by stripping Congress of the ability to manipulate the tax code in favor of one business over another. Every business pays the same rate, Zero, on purchases of materials or labor necessary to producing products or providing services.
This means that Congress will no longer have the ability to pick winners and loser using the coercive power of the tax code and the IRS. Instead of rewarding some companies with tax exemptions, every business will be treated the same.
It's not perfect (see point 3 in the link), but it's the best start to a very large and entrenched problem.
Government subsidized dependency. Next they will make another administration to fight the dependency that they create. It is a never ending dysfunctional cycle. It is all about job security to them and their voters. Pandering with smoke and mirrors to avoid actual work, responsibility and self sufficiency.
You might be more accurate to say that pay is low because taxpayers subsidize the working poor to the benefit of corporate interests. The taxpaying public supports the workers so the corporate fatcats can pocket more.

Illegals here in NJ get $20 an hour clear, no taxes paid, and get all the freebees .. they do work hard, get overtime and make $1000 a week clear.. not too shabby for illegals. Of course in Mexico they are paid $2.00 an hour in US dollars.. so they see it as getting rich!! And they are, seeing the government is paying their bills too.

It's just a free place for them to live.
It's just free healthcare.
It's just welfare.
It's just a free phone.
It's just free college.
It's just free internet.
It's just some disaster relief money.
The list just goes on and on. They just don't seem to realize that all these "benefits" add up to huge burdens. Maybe they would have more of an appreciation for it if they saw the government skimming 40% off of the top of every paycheck like I do.
