I do boycott self check out often times and a lot of over priced, low value food products. And other times I find just going to a restaurant is a better value than a grocer.
About every time I go to the grocery store I notice at least one or two items I was overcharged for.
Have you noticed that at grocery stores with the self check out the cashiers have to pretty much beg you to get in their line when they see you heading towards the self check out.
YES, I notice this all the time............cashiers standing around as 90% of the customers, including me, head towards the courteous and efficient self-checkout.
Sometimes a cashier will even ask me if I am ready to check-out, LOL.............sorry, I am going to the self-checkout, HAHAHA!!!!!!!!
And what do the self checkout lane equipment cost? And at least one cashier has to man the self check out lanes. I don't care about their margins. A typical grocery cashier scans and bags typically $1000s of merchandise in a shift. I'm paying good money for groceries and it sure isn't going to grocery workers or for service.
Yeah, the self-checkout is not all about the money.
I get the strong impression that many businesses are figuring out that a large percentage of their customers would rather use the self-checkout, as opposed to dealing with some rude, nasty, SLOW cashier.

Albertsons supermarkets got rid of their self checkouts. They made Albertsons detached from their customers, weren't saving money, it costs $ to maintain/service, plus more HQ computer staff/services, and a cluster still needs to be manned. In my experience Albertons hires personable staff and has low employee turnover.

Sounds like Costco.
The only problem is that 90% of the people over the age or 25 making around minimum wage right now would never meet their hiring standards.
Showing up on time, showing up sober, showing up at all, assaulting customers or co-workers.....you don't get these issues at places like that outside of extremely rare situations.
I avoid human interaction with as many transactions as possible, be it shopping or investing. I'd love to see tablets at restaurant tables where I can punch in what I want then retrieve it from a counter myself.
I'm not anti-social, I just prize efficiency; and humans generally impede that.
