Russia. But they have been a threat (that we have managed and lived with) for decades.

[in comparison, ISIS is poop]

Lightbulb Which is the greater threat: Isis or Russia?

Just respond to this honestly and you have the answer:

Which one has a thousand ICBMs and thousands of nuclear warheads?

This is an interesting question...but I will take C for China.

Obviously in terms of a potential threat, it is Russian hand down. With their nuclear weapons they could inflict so much more damage than ISIS ever could.

Funny that China didn't make the cut. They basically got the NOC list (just saw a Mission Impossible Preview) for everyone who applied for a federal job in the past I don't know how many years.

The difference with China is that we aren't going to do anything about them hacking into our infrastructure, stealing all of our personal information and intellectual property, They still make lots of our stuff and buy lots of our bonds.

if you add china to the mix, they will be our biggest threat, but only in terms of economics. in a conventional war, the US stands alone, in a nuclear war, china and russia and their allies do pose a threat to us. but nuclear war is not in the cards from conventional countries. if it happens, it will be because some group like ISIS or al qeada go their hands on a nuclear weapon and detonated it somewhere, either in the US or russia.

Who fought the U.S. during the years of its existence? With banana republics? With backward countries, not serious opponents. And even in these local conflicto often unprepared unarmed Africans, Arabs and others gave otopor "well equipped and trained American soldiers. Forgot the history?
I didn't mean direct attack of the US from the start ..... but that things could get out of control if Putin decides to re-take the former USSR countries.

I don't really know what's on his mind. Hopefully any threat of escalation to the point of nuclear war would only last as long as Putin stays in power.

So the threat of conflict with Russia will hopefully be relatively short-lived, a few decades, while the threat from "radical" Islam is small for now, but in the long run could be the bane of civilization.

Russia, with its nuclear arsenal, is an existential threat to the US (meaning that Russia has the capability to destroy the USA). AFAIK Russia is the only country with that capability. Other countries like China or groups like ISIS can cause trouble, but the US could survive...

russian bear - Russia and the US have a long history of friendship, for example Czar Alexander II sent Russian fleets to San Francisco and New York during the American Civil War.

Read any political Science 101 book. the first thing they teach you is that any Successful political system needs an external enemy to Unite the populace around the governing regime.

9-11 was a god-sent for the War Industrial Complex. They have been making money like bandits for 15 years now.
