Agree with OP, cancer sux no matter who gets it. Carter was a nice guy but weak President. He probably contributed to starting the Reagan Revolution so something good came out of his incompetence.
Carter is quoted as praising the Palestinian Authority leadership for their “wisdom.” Carter has admitted that he represented the “dreams and aspirations of Palestinians.”
I remember when he made a point of visiting and touring Three Mile Island immediately following the 1979 nuclear accident....in an effort to reassure the public about nuclear plant safety.
Apparently, there is a lot of cancer in his family, so his cancer may well be totally unrelated to that visit. But upon hearing this news, I can't help but remember the talk surrounding that event and his decision to risk exposure.
His Presidency gets a much worse rap that it deserves. I wish him the best.
He's had a life, well lived. We should all hope for as much. He's very spry for his age, so perhaps he will tolerate chemotherapy ok.
I read in an article about him that he and Rosalyn read the Bible, out loud, in Spanish every night to keep their language skills sharp. I thought that was very tell about how exceptional they are.
At age 90 with widely spread cancer, Carter probably has to make a choice about quality of life vs. aggressive chemo.
I've often described him as the only president I'd buy a used car from.
Glad he go so many good years and that he spent them fruitfully.
My Dad died of an aggressive cancer about 6 months after it was detected a seven years ago. He fought to the end and even under went surgery several days before he died. Like President Carter he was of a generation that always knew if there was even the slimmest of a chance there was always HOPE. Dad never regained consciousness after that surgery which confirmed the doctors diagnosis that the cancer had spread through out his body, but one of the nurses noted that when he passed he had a slight grin.
Jimmy Carter has already made his choice.

We don't need to agree, or disagree, with his politics. His politics could not be further from mine, but I admire him as an honorable man.
