Whenever you see a liberal bring up Fox or Rush you know they have nothing to offer in debate.
I am sure the companies that produce trophies love the concept of participation trophies.
I am sure they do, though I am also not sure why adults get so upset over this topic. It is just a cheap trophy that a kid will eventually throw away. If a parent is so bothered by this then they can always ask to make sure the league they enroll their child in doesn't give participation trophies. Or better yet, one can always request that their little child doesn't get one.

I would just do what Harrison did. Let the other kids grow up to be losers. Less competition for your kids.

That is an assumption and also puts trophies on a weird God like love. Trophies are worthless to those that are hard workers. I am more concerned with children learning how to do something before I would want them to focus on winning.
This weird obsession against participation trophies makes no sense, it does not promote losers nor does it make kids less competitive as they grow older.
I think he's making a big deal out of nothing. This coming from a father of 3 boys who were heavy into athletics. I cannot remember spending 5 mins even thinking about the little trophies they got. They would look at them on the way home and maybe keep them around for a couple of weeks and would end up in the junk along with a lot of other junk. The thing took care of itself. They kept the ones that meant something to them.
I think many of the people who are so against this haven't been rewarded very much in life-- and it eats at them when someone gets something that they don't perceive as "earned."

Probably makes for a bitter unhappy parent.
Participation trophies really aren't trophies to me. They are just something to help the kid feel like part of the team and the event. I have absolutely no problem with them. The little kids, say under 8 years old really get a kick out of the little trophies.
When they are done right they are awesome. I remember a hockey tourney one of my boys was in. The head of the host hockey association came into the locker room, shook every kid's hand and thanked them for playing in the tournament and then gave them a little gift bag and a trophy. I was so impressed, I still remember it to this day. Great sportsmanship IMO.

I am all about skill development. I think if skill development is the focus and trophies are given for engaging, I don't have a problem with it. You're right, the kids don't really care. It's nice to recognize them for the effort-- regardless of their achieved skill level.
We should be encouraging kids to try new things-- whether it be athletics, arts or something else.
Sure, when they get to high school competition kicks in. But for little kids, let's do what we can to encourage mastering the skillsets.
I've always said that the participation trophies are the source of all evils on the earth. ISIS, abortion, homosexuality, illegal immigration, unemployment, evolution, inflation and Justin Bieber all stem from participation trophies.
