I don't give to the homeless directly, it usually just perpetuates the cycle. I spend my time and give my money to a few different charities with good track records.
That was my MO too. But now I realize it's practically the same as giving them money because they have to spend less money on food and will have more money to spend on drugs!
Don't give your lilly-white money to a homeless person; at least they won't have to deal with your snotty, condescending attitude.
Just donate to Planned Parenthood, the selective breeding group. A side benefit is those useless baby parts can be sold for profit so more useless babies can be prevented from becoming homeless bums.
Here in the Charlotte metro area, there is a lot of pan handling going on. I have stopped giving money out because of the scams that have happened. They are even hitting church's which would help the needy but now have issues trying to determine if true need is their.
See same guys at different store fronts and noticed a van where they all go back to at the end of their "shift".
Should you feed the animals? The more you feed the animals, the more they are dependent on you, humans. This why you often see a sign saying "Do not fee animals."
Same would happen with the homeless. The more you feed them, food or cash, the more you encourage their lifestyle and become an enabler for their homelessness.
BTW many posters here have been much wiser than I am and have been giving to charities that work with homeless and that do something CONSTRUCTIVE with them. That is definitely the way to go.
