Two Democrat mayors in Michigan are causing outrage by planning official, city-hosted Muslim Ramadan celebrations for Sept. 11, the same day that Muslims murdered over three thousand Americans in the largest terror attack in U.S. history. Despite that Ramadan ended in July, Lansing, Michigan mayor Virg Bernero and Nathan Triplett, mayor of East Lansing, have announced that they will host a Ramadan celebration dinner on Sept. 11 this year.
This is disgusting. How much do you have to hate your fellow Americans to have a "celebrate Islam" party on the anniversary of the day that 3000 Americans were slaughtered in the name of Islam?
Those mayors don't care until someone from their own family gets their head chopped off or jump out from 100th floor of burning building in lower Manhattan
That Snopes article discredits this whole issue, but worse is the underlying premise of the OP that Islam attacked us.
In reality, fringe elements who hijacked a religion with significant misinterpretations attacked us.
Michigan has the largest Middle Eastern population outside the Middle East. They go about their lives peacefully and probably didn't realize the connection.
Fringe elements make up an extremely large group. That tiny 'fringe' is doing the work of a well funded army.
The use of the word fringe to imply it is just a few crazies is inappropriate and dishonest. that fringe group acts in the wake of the silence of the majority.

No, the use of fringe doesn't mean a few crazies. ISIS, Al Qaeda, etc. are large and surprisingly sophisticated organizations.
But we're talking about a dinner addressing hunger in East Lansing, not about a jihad killing infidels in Baghdad.
Perhaps you've never lived among Muslims, but there's nothing inherently violent about the ones who haven't turned the religion into a thin cover for terrorism. They're pretty normal folk as far as I've seen.
My issue with this thread - and the original article that drives it - is the conflation, no doubt by a white American, of all things Islam being equated with or accountable for terrorism. That's just not how it works. There's a reason learned scholars use the phrase "radical Islam" to describe the terror elements.
How does anyone NOT remember what happened on September 11th? It can't possibly be an "accident" that 9/11 was chosen for the day of this Ramadan Unity Dinner. Particularly odd that it was no trouble at all to move it to another day - it's clear that 9/11 was the intended date and not "the only date available" or an accident.
I've booked events in Large Centers - it all has to be done many months in advance. The flyers are all printed, the event was good to go and apparently not a single person involved thought the date of 9/11 was beyond inappropriate.
