By Christianity she's equally sinful as the people she is denying licenses to:

"There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? Romans 2:1-3"
"Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls." Matthew 7:5
"Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work." Romans 2:13
"Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment." Matthew 20:10
"Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust." Hebrews 13:1-25
"Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you." Romans 6:1-2
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matthew 6:5-6

There is no "persecution of Christians" in this case because clearly she's not acting as a Christian here.

However, lets be honest here. With this legislative decree by the Supreme Court, and several others, including the most recent Obamacare ruling, we are not actually following the US Constitution any more.

Also, our president has been acting with flagrant disregard for the US Constitution and the laws of our country for some time now. So, let's just admit that our national experiment with the rule of law has pretty much run its course and that we are returning to the ancient throwback approach of the rule of man.

If the law does not bind some people, especially the most powerful people in our country, why should anyone respect it? It is getting to the point where we all need to realize that we might as well cut the US Constitution into squares and stack them next to the commode where it can be put to their highest and best use, for all it is worth. It was an interesting experiment, but that experiment has clearly run its course.

Meanwhile, this woman in Kentucky is following her conscience with regards to the principles of God that she respects. And she is exercising her first amendment rights, even those constitutional rights are apparently no longer respected by the US Supreme Court. It was because of this that this country was originally founded. Now our Supreme Court is actively moving to revoke these rights and protections by judicial decree.

Seriously, we are in a rapid and dangerous state of decay in this country. It will not end well.
Very good post and for those Atheist this means congress shall not Establish a church , for example the church of England" This woman sacrificed her job for a believe in something Higher!

this gay thing is totally out of control and they are proposing values for men and women to b a little gay in every day conduct. Even if you are straight as a arrow.

Because she is Christian and has Godly values folks on the other side want Christian to check in their values at the door.
No matter how many people may disagree this country was based on Christion values and Freedom to worship in a peaceful matter.
No this country was not founded on Christian values. The country was founded on Enlightenment principles, from people like John Locke.

As soon as government tried to regulate marriage and attach legal benefits to it that means it must apply equally to all. This means gay couples must be given these benefits, same as straight couples. The courts cited this in their decisions.

She needs to either comply with the courts, or quit her job. She is not required to be Rowan County Clerk, and if she does not want to issue marriage licenses to gay couples she should not be county clerk.

Yes there is,

Gay and lesbian couples are getting married all over the US now whether you like it or not.

So ... be like a silly little five year old girl and cover your ears and whine "la la la I can't hear you" ...

Gay and lesbian are getting married legally with all the rights and responsibilities that legal marriage brings ... and you can't do a darn thing about it.

The issue is, in this country religion does not supersede the law. She IS free to worship as long as it does not interfere with other's Constitutional rights. Rights afforded gay people by the highest court in the land. A court the Founders put in place for a reason. They are the arbiters of the law. The law we all live by.

Would you support her if it were divorced people she was refusing? Would you support a Hasidic judge who only heard cases from men and would not permit women to speak in his court?

Most point to the Treaty of Tripoli as one of the bolder proclamations on this:

Quote:
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims]; and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Muslim] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

I respect the clerk's views, she has her right but she has to execute her job correctly. She is in contempt of court and is being disrespectful of people who are doing what is legal. She can't let her private views get in the way.

But she is also not doing her job as described.

The county clerk issues marriage licenses (KRS 402.080) and files and records all marriage
certificates (KRS 402.220 and 402.230). Military discharges may also be recorded in the county
clerk’s office (KRS 422.090). On or before the 10th day of each month, the county clerk reports
to the state registrar of vital statistics all marriage licenses issued and all marriage certificates
returned (KRS 213.116). Each county clerk must furnish each applicant for a marriage license
with a copy of a marriage manual to be prepared and printed by the Human Resources
Coordinating Commission of Kentucky (KRS 402.270).
