Saw the post (attached) on Facebook this morning and was wondering if all 50 states should require drug testing for welfare applicants. Since I believe that drug testing welfare recipients will be a proven waste of state money. Since no true fiscal conservative would back it unless pandering for votes.

Hey the right loves it till they have to pay. The GOP and ALEC started this stuff and what happened, results proved it was not needed and was a waste of tax payer dollars.

From everything I've read, it's a waste of time and resources. I used to be a proponent of such testing until I read a number of studies on when it's been attempted.

There are much better ways to reform welfare.

Florida tried it. They spent thousands on testing and found only a very small percentage were using. They lost a lot of money.

Not if you require the recipient to pay for the test before applying for benefits.

I would add that recipients that are convicted of any crime would lose their benefits.
Recpients would be require to perform 20 hours of community service each week.

Drug testing has been proven to be a waste of time as far as people on welfare are concerned. Now another question. What segment of the population is most likely to use drugs?

Upper middle class white communities with an average age of 50?

Sorry it isn't a drug, it's a prescription.

Yes, anyone can go to a doctor and claim mental problems and get Xanax or Prozac.

It's about like testing high school athletes. My local school tested 300 and got one positive and it was for pot.

Welfare should be terminated and drug and alcohol abusers can go about their daily lives without intrusion from mother government.
