From the people who bring you the right to life (until birth) there is flip side of the coin, support for capital punishment.
Not all pro life people support capital punishment. I don't. But for those that do it's for the simple reason that there is a difference between killing an innocent baby and a guilty adult. Again, I am not a proponent of either.
Agreed- choices are good but only as long as another human being is not harmed by your choice.
Agreed- you believe that women should be given the right to kill their human unborn children. I believe no one should be given the right to kill unborn human children.
What you cannot disagree with though as it is not open to interpretation is that when a women is pregnant, it is with a human child. An abortion terminates a pregnancy, which therefore terminates a human child. This is not a belief, but a fact.
Yes, currently abortion is legal, but legal doesn't necessarily mean right as there have been many legal "wrongs" including slavery and womens inability to vote.
What other kind of potential animal would 2 humans make??? Sheesh!!!
Do you feel the same way about capital punishment?
I don't feel comfortable with any human being having the right to eliminate another human being.
Well, at least you are consistent. There are many reasons why a woman would choose to abort. None of them are easy, but as long as there is an option out there, abortions will continue, legal or not. If a woman wants an abortion, legal or not, they will seek one. If one cannot understand that, then it is what it is and I will not convince otherwise.
I'll answer the basic question havent' read the thread
1. Government has no business telling a women if she can or cannot have a baby
2. The body of a person is not states right or the federal governments right
3. Nor is it any business of other citizens
4. The only thing i agree with on the pro-life circuit is the "third tri master" debate (if it is really far along it shouldn't be killed)
5. However, calling a 3 month fetus a living person is a bit ridiculous. (Also interjecting religion into such political debates is extremely polarizing and the constitution forbids it.)
Also people have a hard enough time as it is raising kids they actually want. I'd hate to see what would happen if we had a entire generation of unwanted babies roaming this country raining terror.
Here's the same old strawman argument about the baby/fetus being part of the woman's body and she alone should have the "choice". Then, you defeat your own argument by stating that a third trimester pregnancy should be protected by the government and the woman's "choice" should be suspended, even though its still part of the mother's body. It seems that you are more pro-property rights, giving the third trimester fetus/baby human rights, which IS a more reasonable argument. Even chielgrl makes this same argument but still claims "choice" as her argument.
Some killing of humans by other humans is justified by society and always has been. Only the determination of whom and what circumstances has varied through time and place. War, revenge, self defense, criminal activity (ranging from mass murder to petty theft), infidelity, rape, getting raped, population control, infanticide and abortion have all be countenanced at one time or another.
Each society decides what justifies killing people. Ours has decided the war, self-defense, some crimes and abortion are justifiable reasons for killing. This is what is.
I see no reason for removing abortion from this list. In many ways it is the ultimate triumph of individual liberty to control one’s own body over the dictates of others. This is where my support of individual liberty is best illustrated.
I'm English and recently moved to the US. I'm only now learning about American politics and such. I'm a US resident, but I'm so passionate about some of the issues facing the US today (especially women's rights) that I feel like I need to become a citizen so I can vote. These questions go out to born-and-bred American women in particular: Question 1 - How do you feel about the current government's effort to erode pro-choice? Question 2 - What do you feel when you see pro-life billboards? Do you care? Does it make you angry? Do you agree? I was surprised to see one of these billboards pop up on my morning drive (Seattle metro area). It says: "God knew my soul before I was born." I have yet to see a pro-choice billboard that says "My daddy raped me - I have a right to take back my own body." Women I've talked to about this seem to be undecided or almost apathetic. I think that's dangerous. Don't you think that if Roe V Wade is overturned then the next step will be taking away birth control? Isn't it a slippery slope? Thoughts?
Conservative Christians are already working on taking away birth control. Sub-groups like the "Quiverfull" group do not believe in ANY type of birth control, not even natural planning. One is supposed to be "open" to receiving as many "gifts" from God as possible. The Duggar family from Arkansas, having 17 children thus far, are examples of Quiverfull. The religious right's involvement in politics and subsequently our legislature is disturbing to me. We used to laugh at Jerry Falwell's "Moral Majority" when we were growing up in the 70's, now that "Moral Majority" (right-wing Evangalical group) has entrenched themselves into American politics, as you can well see.
If you are interested in reading a disturbing article about right-wing Christians procreating for the purpose of providing more "warriors" for a religious and cultural war, you can read Kathryn Joyce's "Arrows for the War" 'Arrows for the War'. This article was published in 2006. As a mother of a large family, I used to post on large family boards in order to connect with other large families online. I found that a good amount of these family are Evangalicals who subscribe to the Quiverfull doctrine as I stated above. Truthfully, even though we have a larger than average family, we are miles away from their thinking and belief system.
P.S. - We are a Catholic/Eastern Orthodox family, parents of a large family. We are deeply disturbed by the trend that is happening in America at this point. Hopefully, Americans will wake up and realize that the great strength of this country is religious and political freedom. My family moved here in the 1960's so that we could escape political persecution in Europe, so that we could have a life that was not lived in fear. It saddens me profoundly to see our great country in the U.S. being entrenched by religious doctrine that is getting muddled into politics and subsequently our laws.

Yes, support for the ulitmate punishment for someone who has raped, murdered, kidnapped, etc. I would not support the death penalty for the crime of inconvenience, which is what abortion really is.

Considering your support for taking money from the wealthy to redistribute it to others, I don't buy your argument that you support individual liberty. Maybe you can come up with a better argument.
