Once again, stop the lies! The Republicans aren't pushing for English "only" they just want to make English our official language. That in no way implies English "only".

Dutch is an official language in all four constituent countries. Papiamento is an official language in Aruba[1] and Curaçao[2] and has a formal status on Bonaire.[3] English is an official language in Sint Maarten[4] and Curaçao[2] and has a formal status on Saba and Sint Eustatius.[3] Spanish, though not among the official languages, is widely spoken on the Caribbean islands. In Friesland, the West Frisian language has a formal status.[5] Dutch Low Saxon and Limburgish are officially recognised as regional languages in the Netherlands.
How is the Netherlands "divided"?

Quote:
Switzerland has four official languages: principally German (63.5% total population share, with foreign residents, in 2013); French (22.5%) in the west; Italian (8.1%) in the south.[144] Romansh (0.5%), a Romance language spoken locally in the southeastern trilingual canton of Graubünden, is designated by the Federal Constitution as a national language along with German, French and Italian (Article 4 of the Constitution), and as official language if the authorities communicate with persons of Romansh language (Article 70), but federal laws and other official acts do not need to be decreed in this language.
How are the Swiss "divided"?

They communicate by learning multiple languages unlike angry, monolingual Americans afraid of change. Change you know, is constant ... it will happen regardless of whether you want it to or not. No amount of anger is going to change reality.

What's "racist" here? Hispanic's NOT a "race" and, Spanish is a "white man's" language.

Our priorities are the economy, national defense, and things like healthcare, infrastructure improvements, education, etc.

The GOP needs to drop this "English Only" nonsense and move on into the 21st Century. The UK, the Netherlands, and Switzerland are all multilingual nations ... and all are prosperous 1st world nations with a quality of life that exceeds the US.
UK: English language rules; the other languages like Welsh and so on are pretty much useless except in Wales. Netherlands: Dutch is the main language. Switzerland's a weird case but; I'm guessing the French and German speakers are close in culture.

US: I'd def like to see English Only for voting, drivers licenses, unemployment, WIC and so on.

Oh boo friggin hoo.

It's actually discriminatory to provide bilingual services to just ONE ethnic/origin group (Hispanics/Spanish speakers) while not accommodating ALL OTHERS who are ALSO immigrants/ESOL, but don't happen to fall into the most-favored status that Hispanics do.

What about the Portuguese speaking immigrants? The Cantonese speakers? The Haitian Creole speakers? The Vietnamese? No, just Spanish is accommodated because they have a large enough lobby to convince everyone they are an oppressed minority... and everyone else who is ESOL in the area has to put on their big boy pants and learn English.

^ I have been wondering about this myself. Recent demographic data has indicated that the vast majority of Puerto Rico's population growth over the last few years has been from non-Hispanics looking for low costs of living and low taxes. If you go on the US Territories section of this forum a noticeable number of the posts are from non-Hispanics mainly Anglos looking to move to Puerto Rico. What's really surprising is that many of these people are younger with young kids or looking to have kids ... you would think most of these people are retirees but they are not. This has the potential to completely transform Puerto Rico into a sort of Caribbean version of Hawaii.

As I have stated before, my family owns property in Puerto Rico and I can personally tell you that the Anglo population is exploding. The local Republicans (Partido Nuevo Progresista) will fix the spending crisis once they take over in 2017 which will enable economic recovery.
