Muslim parents taunt New Jersey school board over Eid al-Adha closure | Daily Mail Online

While Pope Francis is in the nation spreading love, peace and compassion and blessing Americans and this country, here in America we have Muslim citizens screaming and threatening New Jersey public school district board over deciding to keep the schools open (but excusing Muslims student absentee) on the Muslim holiday.

This is a political issue.

Since it's Jersey, all I can say is Democratic voters are getting what they voted for.

Muslims are already trying to theocracize secular public schools. This is just the beginning.

Yes, and the school board held firm, because closing the schools on short notice would have inconvenienced a lot of people and because schools are not closed for jewish holidays, which raises a fairness issue. Here's a less provocative coverage of the same event -
Jersey City School Board Meeting Gets Heated During Debate Over Closing for Muslim Holiday | NBC New York

You haven't been to very many school board meetings if you think that, for instance, christian parents never threaten board members about decisions they don't like. Somehow, people calm down and life goes on. The board will revisit this issue later.

My personal opinion? Schools should never close for a religious holiday, and kids who take time off for religious holidays should not be penalized for their absence. Yes, I mean christmas too.

There's only one official religious holiday celebrated in this country, and that's christmas. Christians look pretty spoiled when they complain about the temerity of other religious parents who want recognition for their special holiday.

Christmas coincides with Pegan, Jewish and other holidays, including the new year, and is essentially secular at this point.

I agree with the sentiment, but it is not as feasible as you might think. Absent children are not the REAL barrier to this. Absent teachers are. Once a significant percentage of teachers are absent, it gets very difficult to find enough substitutes. Especially on a holiday, where a portion of the substitute pool will also be home celebrating. In NJ we have non-Jewish neighborhoods that have the Jewish holidays off because of a significant number of Jewish teachers in those districts. Try opening schools on Christmas and you are going to run into the same problem on a much larger scale.

Not all that firm... it sounded like they were willing to start closing schools on the Muslim holiday next year.

"Screamed in rage"? Where in the hell do these backwards-azzed spoiled children come from? You don't get your silly little day off and you "scream in rage"? Sounds like 12 year old girls. Or the president of the United States. Grow up people, it isn't always about you.

Lmao 78% of Americans are Christians and over 95% celebrate Christmas. Seriously don't make this into a joke thread...

Btw it's prohibited keeping schools open between Christmas - New Year's Day.

I wonder how passive you would be if the your schools were open on Christmas?
