I love to watch our faux news viewers take the party line to destroy the SS system. It can be fixed by adjusting the rates upward instead of downward. The current GOP wants to create a flat tax system so those at the top will get to keep huge sums while the rest of the population become serfs.
The attempt to throw this stuff is to create a wedge between generations.

Here in NC the flat tax has made the state look like southern Europe ( another GOP talking point). Lower tax rates and no deductions causing an increase for 90% of the workers. More items and services( yes you now have to pay tax on labor rates such as those at a garage or when you need HVAC service) are being taxed. Tax rates and fees (GOP for Taxes) are going up. Those include sales, property, real estate, fire.

GOP=tax rate cuts not in my lifetime.

What Happens To SS/Medicare If A Republican Is Elected?

Nothing

A huge portion of their base is dependent upon these programs. It's insanity & delusion to believe that any politician would attempt to change it for the worse. (from their base's perspective)

I found this supposedly stating what the positions are of the candidates and I say "supposedly" because so many articles are "slanted": How Will Social Security Change if a Republican Gets Elected? A Look at the Candidates Views | ETF Trends

I predict that North Carolina looks like a southern European country within a decade: a ton of retired old people and a government bordering on collapse.

Seriously, how does NC intend to pay for all these retired old people on fixed incomes? Who will pick up the tab for their Medicare?

Oh and btw, SS would have been MORE than solvent if politicians didn't rob that piggy bank - even as far back as L.B.J. administration, they've been stealing from it.
Try FDR and Truman. Where do you think Lend-Lease came from?

Most Republican candidates have said "entitlement reform" which means go after Social Security and Medicare, raising eligibility ages and vouchers for Medicare. George Bush wanted to do it years ago. If it happens it will be poetic since older voters tend to vote Republican. They will essentially be voting to cut their own benefits.

Lend-Lease was necessary to fund WW2. The survival of western democracy was at risk.
BTW, it was funded by tax increases and the sale of war bonds. Not SS. SS was not part of the general piggy bank back then. SS was a fairly new program created by FDR. It was his baby, not to be touched.
