The US gun culture has been around for centuries...it's nothing new. People with mental health problems have been around since the beginning of mankind...nothing new. The social pecking order has been around since the beginning of human existence...there has been and always will be good people, successful people, popular people, men who easily attract lots of women, people who are losers, cowards, criminals, the socially incompetent, the rich, the poor and so on. Bad parenting has been around forever. These things are just part of life.

Over the past 10-15 years, there has been an increase in isolationism, an increase in entitlement and selfishness, an increase in hate, an increase of fear of those around us, an increase in fearmongering and FUD from the media & politicians (shock value = ratings), a decrease in face-to-face community, and a decrease in empathy. Especially among folks under the age of 35 or so. To put it more bluntly, a lot of people in this country treat each other like utter and complete sh*t. At work, home, school, online, and just about anywhere else.

Now, most people - including most people who have had unhappy lives...will never resort to disgusting acts like this Oregon incident no matter how bleak things get. But sadly, the truly twisted and disturbed folks among us will eventually snap and go on a rampage.

There are no easy answers to deal with this problem.

I'm still missing the outrage of liberal 'medias' due to a Christian Only killing.

GravityMan pretty much sums things up here.

This is exactly why I begrudgingly decided to start carrying a concealed weapon, especially when I am out with my children. We can all wish for a gun-free society, but that's not what we have here in America. All we can really do is accept reality and be prepared to protect ourselves and our families should the need ever arise.

Adam Lanza was already on the list. Also, the push back there isn't from "conservatives" but rather the medical community. Probably Libertarians also.

You are unaware of the Charleston killings?

Now all of the inconsistencies come out just like all the other high profile shootings. The number of dead kept changing. The shooter killed or alive keep changing. Student in the next classroom heard no gun shots while other students claim the shooter first shot from outside and through a window.

Reports of a manifesto just like other shootings
Reports of mental issues from some but other long term friends and family claim he was perfectly normal.
Reports that the shooter had no connection to the school ... then they changes that yesterday.

And then there are the miraculous coincidences ... Remember Alek Skarlatos ... one of the American military heroes from the France train terrorist shooting? You guessed it ... Alek Skarlatos was enrolled at Umpqua Community College and was supposed to be their the day of the shooting. All the other high profile shootings that were used to push gun control were riddled with miraculous coincidences and as expected so with this shooting.

Can you say False Flag for the purpose of new gun control legislation?

Perhaps we should just make a new law that requires, anybody that buys body armor, to list all their friends and number of weapons they own? If they respond with Disney character names or only one/two online friends and an arsenal; then we might have problems?

We could also make it a law that anybody that says 'Goodbye' on the internet should immediately be grabbed and run through psychological testing. We already have many companies and our government that track every word.

How about arresting any mother that calls her son 'baby' after they graduate from HS. That is a sure sign that one or both of them have problems.

We always need new laws. That is what we pay or politicians to do - make more laws to 'protect' us. Don't you feel 'protected'?

Unfortunately government cannot be everyplace all the time. This last shooting was not the 'norm'; normally the shooter gets tired of killing, suicidal, or is running out of ammunition and decides to take their own life. These shootings happen very quick (I know that it seems like an eternity to the survivors). By the time law enforcement can arrive; it is usually over and the shooter is dead or escaped. The only effective deterrent is a practiced strong offensive against any hostile action. If everybody charges or throws whatever they have at these assailants you will have some dead; but not as many as doing nothing. Of course it would help even the playing field if there were trained 'good guys/gals' in the crowd of victims.

The one thing we do know is that cooperating with the assailant will give you a quick trip to the grave. There is no way to anticipate the motivation behind the next attack. It is possible that the monster will go in and target all non-Christians - we cannot out-guess a nut case. We also cannot out guess the means that they will deploy to carry out their attack. On the individual level preparedness and awareness is the best we can do.

I can't express how naive it is to believe that making guns harder for law abiding citizens to get will somehow make anyone safer.
Right, and in the hail of panicked gunfire forty or fifty people could have killed each other. Talk about naive.

Horse crap! Had a look at those weapons the Taliban are using? That's right; they're YOURS you doofus.

The damn thugs are riding around in humvees and tanks your stupid country let them have. They ain't firing muzzle loaders and this ain't Kansas any more Toto! That's how they're prevailing against a "so-called" superior military - they outnumber you and are equally armed in everything but air power and are fighting for control of their homeland......Geeez!

And exactly like the other amendments intended for the purpose; your government hasn't been kept in check, vis-à-vis exercising the will of the people, since before Vietnam. Deal with it; all your little guns haven't and won't change a thing.
