So we have 4 states now that have assisted suicide with California joining the fray. Will they follow the Netherlands into Involuntary assisted suicide with others making the decision that the person deserves not to live? Mind you the Netherlands has about 8k or more of these a year. Take grannys life she is no longer any use to us and her living is costing to much money. This is exactly what happens there.

Like night follows day, and for all the best possible reasons of course. It will be a great help in managing the cost of medical care.

Lifenews is edited by propagandists, there is no such thing as "involuntary assisted suicide" in the Netherlands, and even the assisted suicide (which is legal) doesn't reach 8,000 per year.

I know, Rick Santorum made up stuff about "Do not euthanize me" bracelets - that's because he lies as easy as he breathes.

Here's a pretty good primer on Dutch law on the subject - if you feel you must comment on it, at least be informed.

Why don't we allow legalized physician assisted suicide? Someone provide a reason, a good one.

It really ain't that hard to kill yourself on your own. Guns are easily available in this country.

We already have involuntary assisted suicide it is called murder.

I don't have any problem with a person who is at the end of their life and wants to die. It happens everywhere but it is not advertised. Imagine someone racked with pain clinging to life but their body just won't give up so the Doc ups the morphine to end the persons suffering. Why is this a problem and why is it illegal? We do it to our pets and some people love their pets more than family.

That article doesn't add up it states that

"In 1990, 130,000 people died in the Netherlands: 2,300 people asked doctors to kill them; 400 asked doctors to provide them with the means to kill themselves; 8,100 died when doctors deliberately gave them an overdose of pain medication to kill them (for which 4,941 patients didn’t consent); 1,040 people died when doctors euthanized them without their knowledge or consent (72 per cent of those never having given any indication they would want their lives terminated)."

They are saying the 4,941 people were murdered ? That is the term to use if someone kills someone without their consent.

Death comes to everyone and it so individual but I think with a natural death we all more or less know when it is our time.

It costs the taxpayers too much to carry out the death penalty so if only they could convince people to do it on their own dime a great cost savings would be realized.

Like seat belts the government mandated their use then it became infused into social expectation. "Can you believe mom, she knows we can't afford to keep her, why doesn't she off herself ? it would be the responsible thing to do".
