Some do. Until the early '70s, Willie Nelson was smoking 3-4 packs of cigarettes a day & getting drunk frequently. Then he switched to cannabis & is now one of the most active & healthiest 82 year olds in the country. But he has mostly switched from smoking it to vaporizing it, just in case too much smoking of it would change his singing voice. Whoopi Goldberg (who has a medical use) also recommends vaporizers.

Still, smoking it is healthy enough for those who don't have a potentially fatal condition. If not sure, one could use it both ways. Many can't afford the oil regularly.

So, do you only worry about the plant that causes no deaths? If so, why?

Is cannabis bad because it kills 0 & treats large numbers of medical conditions better than pills?

While it is true some cannabis users also use alcohol &/or tobacco, some users of alcohol &/or tobacco have used cannabis to quit or reduce alcohol &/or tobacco use. So I don't see it as increasing total drug use & it is reducing possibly fatal drug use. It doesn't cause brain damage or any meaningful harm, just dry mouth, possible cough as used, if smoking. Maybe 1 in 1,000 chance of panic attack, & very rare allergic reactions. New users could feel dizziness, but sitting down will eliminate any risk from that. Also, a hallucination is possible with high dose of high THC, but that is probably annoying at worst, no damage.

A European expert put the addiction rate at 2% but death rate of 0% is more important. Our govt is like, use any drug you want, as long as it kills many. We need to vote Libertarian Party if we want safer drugs to be as legal as the worst ones. BTW, cannabis is a non-toxin, which is why nobody has ever achieved a fatal overdose. Proven safe in preschoolers, infants, fetuses, mice, rats, cats, dogs, horses, monkeys. With about 25,000 studies, it's probably the most over-studied drug/plant ever. So far, $1 trillion taxpayer $$s have been wasted on phony studies written to please the pill industry.

Beyond that, marijuana users are likely to use tobacco and alcohol as well, meaning they've got three different addictive toxins tearing up their insides and 'effing up their brain chemistry. Yeah, that's gonna cause you problems eventually.

Cannabis does not cause fatal crashes, according to a Fed. govt study published Feb 2015. One study said 1.25 times crash risk, which got reprinted as 25 times greater crash risk. Even the 25% greater crash risk was wrong, as they failed to consider a few things: heaviest cannabis users are males under 25; heaviest drinkers are males under 25; heaviest risk takers (even when not drunk or stoned), males under 25.

So, cannabis getting blamed for alcohol results & cannabis getting blamed for risks that would've been taken anyway (cannabis doesn't always fix stupid; crashes despite cannabis use, not because of). Then there's probably a likelihood of friends in car talking loud, radio too loud, etc.

It's very hard to prove if a fatal accident was ever caused by cannabis. Cannabis has a plateau effect, so even the most that could be used might cause an impairment equal to .04% B.A.C. How often do you see in the news a crash that said driver had a B.A.C. of .04%? Usually it seems story will give a B.A.C. of 2-3 times the .08% legal definition of drunk.

A couple hundred people on rxmarijuana dot com say cannabis saved their life. Is it dumb to save ones life with something that can't kill, or is it better to try toxic pills?

Politicians help put harmless people in prison after huge bribes from pill companies, hundreds of thousands a year for most Democrats & most Republicans in Congress, even more for Presidents. I don't think harmless belong in prison so I vote Libertarian Party (for the 100% equally & for cannabis).

Smoking marijuana is a bad idea. Legalizing it is a cowardly politicians way out.

Agree, the drug war should come to a close. It has been nothing, but a failure. All the drug war has done has encroached on personal freedoms, and has contributed to the rising power of the drug cartels in Central and South America.

Cannabis kills 0 people a year & it does not cause mental or physical illness. Some people are born with life-threatening illnesses. So should they just die if illegal cannabis oil can save their lives? Suicide prevention is one of the main reasons for smoking cannabis. You are "thinking" like people did before the internet was invented, seemingly unaware of all the good it can do.

Few who get around the internet are stuck in 1970 lies. Do you really think our govt never lies? We've had about a century of lying about cannabis. Cannabis is legal in North Korea, sold in the open market for 84 cents a bag. Then this reporter went into a restaurant & was smoking it, not illegal. They have many manual laborers there who might have to take every other day off if they didn't use cannabis.

There is a man in California, Steve Kubby, who has had stage 4 cancer for many decades. He last had traditional treatment in 1981. With a good diet & smoking up to an ounce of cannabis a day, he leads an active life: climbed Mt. Shasta, went deep sea diving & has gone skiing around the world! The Mayo Clinic says he us the only known long term survivor of his rare form of adrenal cancer.

Another that beats the lazy stereotype is Willie Nelson, using it heavily since early '70s when he quit alcohol & tobacco.

George Zimmer says he has smoked it daily for 50 years. He joked about how it ruined his life (his net worth is estimated at $180 million).

That nutty "study" from these pill company protectors & treatment center promoters can be ignored by anyone as they just boost the imaginary harm numbers. I've never heard of anyone with real illness caused by cannabis. I guess a use disorder is using something other than legal poisons.

1 out of 6 Americans say they use cannabis which is pretty close to the same as tobacco. Cannabis has been shown to add healthy brain cells & then they say it lowers IQ. Constant contradictions.

A woman who has MS with intense facial pain uses up to an ounce a day of cannabis. She had to retire from her job as a cop because of the MS.

Richard Branson favors legalization. He owns about 400 businesses.

The REAL (and unfortunately much harder) solution is to continuously live a healthy and active life... all those problems you mentioned tend to be the results of years of unhealthy lifestyle choices.

As for everything being bad for you, it's true... the #1 cause of death is living and *something* is gonna get us all eventually. Still, there ARE things which are bad for you that can be easily avoided, and marijuana is one of them.

As for the statistics showing Tobacco and Alcohol cause FAR more problems than Marijuana... Well yea, duh... you can buy cigarettes and booze at the grocery store anytime you want and A LOT more people use them (and use them far more often) than Marijuana... several orders of magnitude more. If as many people did weed as much as drink, it would be at the top of the list too.

MJ is still illegal in most places around the country and frankly, the costs outweigh the "benefits" as weed is a relatively weak drug anyway with limited "feel good" value vs the cost of getting caught with it and being sent to jail or having THC show up during a pee test and helping you loose your job... not to mention being stigmatized and stereotyped as a stupid, lazy pot-head by everyone around you who doesn't use it.

Still, my main reason for disliking pot is a bit more basic... I hate the smell of it. I don't want it be legal because I'd have to smell it that much more.

Most had health problems before they started using it, often health problems that have not been diagnosed, maybe never will be diagnosed. Sometimes it is something that could be fatal, often a birth defect. Often something rare, or at least rarely diagnosed correctly.

Many of us are also worn out by harm from poison pills.

Sometimes cannabis is the only safe & effective way out of pain. The only other way to be assured of no pain is suicide.

Pill companies get to make pills that kill millions with no sentencing for those killers. So do you think cannabis users are worse than mass killers? Pill companies & politicians & police & prosecutors get harmless cannabis users incarcerated, so the money & power worshipers are much better, even better than the maker of this plant?

Less people hiding their use is why the 100% increase claim is inaccurate.
