Yesterday I purchased some boxed Christmas cards at a Hallmark store. Upon reading the fine print on the bottom of the box, I was shocked to learn that the cards were manufactured in China! This morning I did a little research online and discovered that Hallmark outsourced part of its card manufacturing to China quite some time ago. Here is one article about it, and here's an excerpt from the article:
Outsourcing and job cuts may seem normal for corporate America, but Hallmark founder Joyce Hall created his company with the idea of valuing his employees over all else. Hall protected every employee during hard times — even through the Great Depression — until he retired in 1966. The company mantra, still printed on cards and posters given to employees over the years, promises "That the people of Hallmark are our Company's most valuable resource."
I find it appalling that this 105-year-old company started by a family that used to put the American worker first has lost sight of the company's mantra and true intention. It galls me to think that the company now charges four to six bucks or more for a card manufactured for pennies in China.
How do you feel about this? Is the value of the company's stock more important than the value of its American employees?

Maybe the Chinese will actually be able to come up with something clever to put on the inside a greeting card. Whoever writes for them now needs to be put on a slow boat to China.
There's a train; its heavy, fast, lots if inertia, has a LOT of cars behind it but the only time it can turn is on its tracks. You're on that train.
I don't buy Hallmark cards anymore for this reason. Its not enough they charge $5, $6 + for a CARD, but they're made in China for the past several years.
There are plenty of cards still made in the US (American Greetings is one). Probably not boxed sets though.
I dislike the China import boom also. I've just gotten in the habit of checking the "made in" statement on virtually everything. The more we all support American business the better IMO.

There are no brakes.
My guess its been going on for 25 years now I have thought the same thing the quality of being able to write something that makes sense in a card, is becoming a lost art. Most seem to not make any American sense......
The King James Bible is printed in China, why is this?
