What caused the millions of people put to death in the Soviet Union and China?
Dictators who could use technology to kill at a faster rate than ever before to keep control.
Look, in the context of world history, religion has been a very big factor in many conflicts. Common denominator isn't the best term to use and I'll admit that.

In the end though there is someone using whatever excuse to maintain power and control. There are millions of Muslims here in the U.S. and around the world that simply go through life just like anyone else.
Those who so desire power and control will use whatever excuse or reasoning they can come up with to do that.

And religion has been the most powerful tool in human history to gain control and power. Add religion with a group of disfranchised folks with no future prospects and you can quickly build an army in the conventional sense or in the political sense.
Isn't it amusing how the hypocritical Dems claim to be against the wars they accuse Reps of supporting?
And this is just Afghanistan.
----------------------
WASHINGTON, D.C. — An estimated 75 percent of the all U.S. military deaths and about 90 percent of the injuries linked to the ongoing war in Afghanistan have occurred under President Obama’s watch, according to a Breitbart News tally.
President Obama, citing a “fragile” security situation at risk of deteriorating, announced today that he will be extending the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan for an undetermined amount of time, handing over the conflict to his successor.
And now we can expect more deaths from Warmonger Obama;
------------------------
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Tuesday that the U.S. will begin "direct action on the ground" against ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria, aiming to intensify pressure on the militants as progress against them remains elusive.
"We won't hold back from supporting capable partners in opportunistic attacks against ISIL, or conducting such missions directly whether by strikes from the air or direct action on the ground," Carter said in testimony before the Senate Armed Services committee, using an alternative name for the militant group.
Where are all of the war protesters? Did they all die in 2009? Or just change their colors?
Here's a question for people, when was the last time Obama gave an address to the nation justifying why we are in Afghanistan, what our objective is, and how he plans to win the war there? It seems like Obama just wants to do whatever he wants to do without having to articulate a damn good reason and justify his actions.
Exactly as he did with Libya. Obama gave us no warning or justification, he just launched the aircraft and went golfing. He seems to have a great amount of disrespect for the American people and our brave and loyal military personnel
Sigh. They didn't kill because of what diety you worshiped, they killed to stay in power.
To be clear, I'm not blaming religion on everything. You're a right, at the basic level it is the wrong policy, and historically it seems the wrong policy involves what diety you worship.
The problem is that in the case of Islam, it justifies killing for power and includes adoption of their law and the exclusion of any other religion. Until they modify it to be more accepting, it's going to continue being a problem for Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, gays, women, etc.
