I don't understand why sick time isn't available to everyone? No one should have to worry about losing their job because they are sick and/or not getting paid. Honestly it is barbaric. Even machines break down and need repairs. It's really sad. People that work in hospitals that care for the sick feel they can't call off sick for fear of losing their jobs.

an easy solution is to choose a company that provides sick time

What you are really calling for is that the government mandate sick time through more regulation

What gives you the right to force private companies to behave how you see fit. That never works

I agree. My employer provides sick leave but when I had a business I couldn't afford to pay people to sit at home, and no one paid me if I stayed home sick, in fact a couple of times I had to close up.

Why should people that keep healthy be penalized?

I should wait for a few pages worth of replies but I'll go ahead. I agree one shouldn't worry about getting sick and losing their jobs. This isn't how it works in many other countries. Unfortunately we do no approach it correctly like they do in other countries.

As I said *I* do not believe one should have to worry about losing their job if they get sick. That said since *I* believe it should be that way it is *I* that should be providing for it.

Many others believe this but they believe the answer is for others to provide it. In other countries it is done through insurance provided by the country, not employers.

Asking a company to provide it and also to compete with an employer in another country that doesn't have to provide it only means more lose jobs here regardless if you are sick or not.

And why should the employer have to eat the cost of those lost days?

You claim no one should have to worry about losing their job because they are sick. I could argue that no employer should have to worry about paying salaries to people who don't benefit the company.

But I'm sure you think the freebies should always default to the person with less money. I mean, who cares who actually earned it, right?
