Folks can call the Al Qaeda, Islamo-facist, or the cheese burgler gang for all I care, but I do recall seeing a couple of planes flying into some of our skyscrapers.
While I have tried to find the very first instances of the use of the term or name, "Al Qaeda", as it is certainly recent, I found some of the best information from the BBC special that ran recently called, "The Power of Nightmares" in which it is claimed that the western nations actually created this term that radical Islamist later adopted. One thing it did mention in the series was the film clips of the Al Qaeda training camps that were shown repeatedly, and it was later revealed that Bin Laden had to pay locals to "dress up" to make the film clips as a show of strength but in fact didn't have no where near the organization the west claimed he had.

Quite possibly one of the most insightful series ever created to attempt to describe the rise of radical Islam as well as the rise of the neoconservative movement in the west.
