Regarding the $15 minimum wage issue: I'm so sick of the "people need to better themselves" argument. That works for an INDIVIDUAL, but it won't work for 42% of workers. Even if some individuals move up, there is still a need for 42% of jobs to be low level and thus the overall makeup won't change.

In other words, the jobs will exist regardless if someone moves up. When one cashier, for example, gets more education and skills and is promoted, someone else will be hired and will go on government assistance while working full time.

what do folks think will happen when the TPP gets approved?...there are provisions in there that state these multi national companies can bring in to the US their own workers on visa's and pay them THE PREVAILING WAGE FROM THE COUNTRY THEY CAME FROM, not the federal minimum wage established in this country...think Laos is paying $7.25 an hour, let alone 15 bucks

check it out...this TPP is bad news for everyone

So you're upset that there are still lower entry jobs in the US? When that cashier develops better skills, it opens the job for a new entrant to the job market, such as a teenager or young adult to take it and in turn develop job skills of their own. If we eliminate these jobs, how exactly do you propose that people develop job skills in order to advance their careers? We can't all be middle managers and CEOs...

Just a genuine question... do they not teach macro-economics in school anymore? It was a required course when I was in high school. It just seems like this has been bumped from the curriculum at some point in the last few years. I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just curious is all.

There's a pseudo type economics class in HS that is an elective.
Nothing to write home about though. Kids learn about a budget and play a stock market simulation game.

In America, minimum wage jobs are "entry level" jobs. You're not supposed to stay there forever! It's for teens, just starting out, or for folks to earn a little extra at a part-time job.

This is America. You CAN better yourself, if you try! Unfortunately, people have been told they don't need to get off their asses...because the GOVERNMENT (taxpayers) will give them everything they need or want....it's unsustainable...and a lazy way of living.

Learn a trade. Our business NEEDS workers...we can't find people who actually WANT to do the job! They want to be hired, and payed a great wage, but do NOT want to WORK! They sit around, they try to hide...they do a half-assed job when you can get them to work....pay them $15 an hour? Are you nuts???????

The op should open their own business and then they can pay all the employees a min. of $15.00 per hour.
We are the land of opportunity lol

AGAIN: This is not about individual people bettering themselves, it is about a large percent of jobs in general paying so low that the taxpayers need to bail out the workers in these jobs.

My point had nothing to do with individual people bettering themselves, it had to do with the 42% of people in America who are paid so poorly that they get benefits paid by the taxpayers.

(Yes, few people make the actual minimum wage but 42% of workers make less than the popular promoted soon to be minimum wage of $15.00)

Taxpayers shouldn't be bailing out anyone.
