GM to sell Chinese-made cars in the US: report

General Motors plans to sell Chinese-made cars in the United States beginning early next year, a first for a major automaker, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

GM, the top US automaker, will introduce the Buick Envision, a midsize sport-utility vehicle made in Shandong province, the Journal said, citing unidentified people familiar with the plan.

What could be wrong with the government outsourcing its work to the Chinese?

We have all of this federal debt to other countries... our investment into their country should count as a credit to reduce the debt amount.

GM makes junk anyway. And has been for decades. Might as well sell Chinese made cars.

This is happening cause the GM plant in China is so big and can produce more cars than the Chinese can buy currently due to the slump in the Chinese economy. GM will be able to take advantage of Chinas currency manipulations in order to sell the cars in America at a significant profit, other makes will follow.

I won't buy one, but I'm curious to see how many are sold.

Even though made in China, GM will still overprice this car like all its other cars by atleast $4-5000. People will probably just buy the Chevy version of it to save money.

I predict it will go the way of Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mitsubishi. It might a couple decades though.

People have such short memories... wasn't too long ago that Japan was known as the land of cheap, poor quality knockoffs.

I thought GM was free from US govt control, so who cares? It's called globalization.
