One has to qualify as a refugee first before they can be granted asylum. Anyone cannot simply apply for asylum just because they are here on vacation and they feel like they want to move to the US.
Those who are granted asylum are by definition already refugees.

Exactly. It's semantics. Instead of admitting they were refugees, the Left is back tracking and saying, "um, actually, they were granted asylum" to try to differentiate between the Tsarnev brothers and the current Syrian refugees.
Both are refugees. The Tsarnev family was fleeing war-torn Chechnya, because the Muslims in Chechnya started a war with the peaceful Russians. So once again, it was the stupid Muslim's fault. The Tsarnev family came here and what do you, years later they decide they can't stand the peaceful life of America and they have to destroy it with Muslim terrorism.
They are too stupid to even learn from their own mistakes. Just plain, all around, stupid.
The Syrian refugees are no different, they are fleeing yet another war that was started by Islam. Now they want to come here. Guess how many months or years before a few of them decide to repay us by killing as many innocent Americans as they can.
Look at how many it takes to kill and maim hundreds. There were only 2 Tsarnev brothers, and look how many people they successfully killed and maimed.
Now imagine what 100,000 Muslim Syrians could do to our country. It only takes a handful of them to be violent at once, and they can do major damage.
Muslim immigrants and Muslim refugees should be banned from the USA. There is no telling when they will decide to "self-radicalize" and go out and start killing.

So we should wait till it happens to us before we "react"? No one is "punishing" innocent immigrants. We just have to be very cautious about whom we allow into our country.

I work in an area of CA with a very large Iraqui population. The area unfortunately also attracts low-income people who bring lots of crime, and a not so good vagrant homeless population. I'm not sure why so many homeless are attracted to this area, but they are.
I feel safer around the Iraquis. Lol
In all seriousness, it is fear of the unknown. I really wish people would be humble, sit down and have conversations with actual refugees. Many have lost it all, have been tortured, persecuted, and are very happy and grateful to be here.
Many are also stressed because their families are still left behind living in war torn areas with alot of strife. So sad.
