you didn't even bother to read the article, did you?
"The killings took place over the course of a 56-day manhunt following an attack on a colliery in Aksu in September that left 16 people dead"
any excuse, right?
Go back and read a little history dude. The Uighers live in a remote area of western China and weren't bothering anyone until their Communist party overlords in Beijing decided to start exporting Han Chinese out west to replace the Uigher population. The Uighers weren't exactly living in paradise, and then what little they did have started being taken away from them by party apparatchiks.
Their religion is incidental. Uighers are fighting for their lives. Don't pat the Chinese government of the back for this mess...they created it.

"Their religion is incidental."
For the Devout Religion is never incidental. China has had violent confrontations with Muslims for a millenia just as every other culture/nation on earth.
Plus, it is China, let them worry about their own problems. The Chinese don't really treat Muslims in xinjiang all that well, but doesn't mean the Muslims need to retaliate. It is a sad situation. Hope the best for China.

So the Uighurs were intolerant of the Han Chinese and did not want diversity in their region. I thought diversity was universally a good thing? People who want to hold on to their cultural identity are racists and xenophobes. Or maybe that standard only applies to westerners?
I'm sorry, but I find it hard to sympathize with a group that murdered 16 people. I won't cheer for China either, but I'm glad the terrorists have been brought to justice.

Do you know the original people in Xinjiang were not Uyghurs but Tocharians? Tocharians were Indo-European and their language was similar to Celtic languages to some extent (based on literature left over). Traditionally, they were Buddhists and did business with Chinese and Persians.
However, when Uyghur Turks invaded Xinjiang from Northeast Asia, they slaughtered most Tocharians and converted the rest to Islam. Caucasian people almost went extinct in Xinjiang, though Uyghurs themselves became a mixed people. Now in Xinjiang, most people are Turkic and the only Indo-Europeans are Tajiks (Russian Chinese are not counted).
China and Russia don't **** around, prepare to die Islamists.
