Elected members of the U.S. Senate don’t have to look very far to see fresh signs of the national Fight For $15 movement: It’s made its way from the McDonald’s hamburger joints back home to their own cozy Capitol Hill dining room.

The cooks and waiters working for a catering company that operates the Senate restaurant are speaking up for better wages and the right to unionize, even as they serve up luxurious meals to well-paid politicians and their well-heeled guests, say labor activists in Washington, D.C. Their efforts have persuaded some 34 members of the Senate to support the campaign, and are once again highlighting the need for the federal government to clean its own house and raise labor standards for its own contract employees.

“I often had to skip meals”: Senate Dining Room Workers Want a Union, Say They’re Living in Poverty - Working In These Times

Senators eating like kings while the staff serving the meals go hunger........

People who can't make a good living inside the beltway are total losers.

If they are serving food to the Senators they IMO would not be considered losers. But you knew that already

Maybe they shouldn't have voted against the SEIU's attempt to organize. More than 2/3 of the contract employees did not wish to unionize just three years ago. Maybe SEIU should come in and force another vote.

Oh, and if the Chef is only getting $13 an hour, after five years, perhaps he should entertain another line of work. Evidently, he is not worth better pay than contract commissary workers on military bases that routinely START at $13.74 hr.

I simply solved my problem of having a low paying job by finding a higher paying job. Didn't have to move to another town to find it.

You never know why the voted against it. Perhaps they were given bad info or threatened they might lose their jobs. Things are not always cut and dry....
