Classic politician, wanting to ban what they don't understand.

I'm starting a new business to de-assault a gun. The kit will include wood grain stickers, a hacksaw to cut off the mounts and a tube of superglue to fix that nasty shoulder thingy.

For reals. spray paint and old M4 stocks (featureless)

I used to think no way Americans are really that stupid. I was wrong. Really wrong.

Even if it doesn't go up, it will still be icky.

There are various problems with the gun grabbers:

1. they typically don't know what they're talking about, evidence the video above. Calling magazines by clips, there is a difference. Does anyone here know what a real assault weapon is? The AR-15 is not an assault weapon, it is a semi-automatic rifle.

2. they're typically protected by people who are armed.

3. they enjoy rights they deny to others, look at Feinstein from CA. Denies citizens the right to conceal carry a weapon for personal protection yet has a concealed carry permit herself.

4. waste no time in taking advantage of shootings in order to pass their agenda. Have no problem parading the families of victims on TV to use as pawns for their own political gain.

In FL, the state law says no local municipality/city can enact gun laws stricter than the existing state law. In my view that is the way it should be.

Thanks everyone for the details.

Illinois already had a 16/33 law -the barrel had to be 16" and the overall rifle had to be 33" - which made the fold up thingee a non-starter statewide.

Interesting thought. Highland Park straddles I-94 about halfway between Chicago and Waukegan. What happens if a guy with a Colt Sporter and a 20-round mag is driving from one to the other, passes through Highland Park and gets pulled over for a traffic violation? Is he in violation of this law?

Wow.

So apparently this gun because you can't mount a grip on the front out of the box is legal:

And almost the exact same gun sold in the scary black version is illegal because you can mount a front grip to it? .
I think even that would be problematic - the Mini-14 can seat a 20 round mag. At least my ranch rifle does. I don't even know how to retrofit the magazine well to prohibit a 20 rounder...

Now some news about this is getting out - apparently a number of suburbs had a 10 day window to pass such laws and Highland Park jumped at it.

Still not exactly sure exactly what is legal and what isn't. The list of states with 'assault rifle bans' in the article all have different definitions of just what that is.

Massachusetts bans features. No folding/adjustable stock, bayonet lug, flash suppressor and no mags over 10-rds unless they are preban (pre sept 1994) magazines.

City of Boston has a total AWB for residents living in the city. If you pass through it however with a legal AR-15 in your trunk you are fine.

MA politicians always pat themselves on the back for having an AWB and saying how the "XYZ shooting couldn't happen here because we have an AWB". It's clear none have ever stepped foot in an Masschusetts gun store. Plenty of AR-15's on the rack.
