"The Catholic Church is pledging assistance to Syrian refugees seeking resettlement in the United States, thwarting attempts by governors to prevent an influx of refugees from the war-torn nation. On Monday night, the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis facilitated the arrival of a Syrian refugee family to the city, openly challenging Indiana Gov. Mike Pence’s call to halt the arrival of refugees from Syria."

A family of six also arrived in Dallas on Monday over the objections of Texas Governor Abbott.

Officials from the Church called aiding people fleeing violence "an essential part of our identity as Catholic Christians." Glad to see some Christians are actually living their beliefs rather than just giving lip service to it, as so many others seem to do.

I am Catholic. If the church takes actions in contrast to federal and state immigration laws, at the very minimum, their tax exempt status should be taken away.

But since we have entire cities acting as sanctuary cities, slim chance.

Bernie Sanders, a presidential candidate, just came out saying he stands with illegals. The whole immigration thing is absolutely bizarre. It's almost as if people want to do away with the sovereignty of our great nation.

Certainly not limited to the Catholic Church.

Many religious orgs, including evangelical denominations, favor and are sponsoring Syrian refugee resettlement, without prejudice.

It's the " what would Jesus do" thing.

The world is one big ole humanitarian crisis.

So Catholics are able to break the law and harbor illegals bc that is the values stated in their faith? Guess what, according to that maniac in San Bernandino, he was following his faith as well.

They aren't breaking the law. These are refugees who have been lawfully admitted to the United States. To the contrary, it's these bigoted governors who risk breaking the law.

"The federal Office of Refugee Resettlement last week warned Abbott and other governors that they do not have the power to reject Syrian refugees, telling them they would be breaking the law if they denied benefits or services to refugees based on their country of origin or religion."

Fair enough, good point. I don't know enough about federal vs state law to offer perspective, so perhaps I was mistaken.

Yeah, how nice of them. Too bad their fellow "religion of peace follower" in the middle east dont all do the same. And you wonder why its the fastest growing conquering ideology in the world "It is built to spread"

Jesus was also crucified on the cross. What members of other religion has been crucifying people lately?

Catholic Charities (a large Government contractor) should "re-settle" these poor refugees in Catholic Homes. This actually solves all the problems. The FBI, Homeland Security and the US State Department refuse to "Certify" that these refugees are Vetting and Safe. Good Catholic Homes can take care of that Certification.

Win/Win for everybody.
