"On Capitol Hill this week, just hours before they jet away for the holidays, the GOP-led Congress is going on a $680 billion spending spree — none of which will be paid for by budget cuts or other tax offsets. And all of which will be added to the national debt, according to budget watchdogs."

Congress' spending binge: $700 billion in unpaid tax cuts - POLITICO

Lots of goodies in this bill, with absolutely no offsets--something they have demanded of the president and the Democrats at every turn. And the GOP continues the laughable pretense that they care about the debt.

Both sides agreed to waive cuts/taxes for new spending.

This is the Merry Christmas spending bill....everyone got what they wanted from their failed bills throughout the year.

It should have been tabled.

BRIBE is the better word, not "compromise".

Everyone got what they wanted. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.
And they waived the cut/tax for new spending for "No pork left behind"

Does the FBI really need a new $1billion dollar building ? And you know that $1 billion will triple or quadruple before a foot is set over the threshold.

It's a good thing the Millenials can afford it.

It is like watching those Wiley Coyote vs. Road Runner cartoons. You know that crazy coyote is never going to catch the road runner, but it is fun watching him make attempts.

This makes yet another time the House has tried to "get" Obama and yet again he is gloating about winning. Apparently Speaker Ryan just got mounted and ridden same as John Boehner.

Oh, please. This bill is chock full of tax cut goodies the Republicans wanted. The only thing they "compromised" on was their own rule that any new spending has to be offset by cuts somewhere else. Funny how that didn't even enter into this massive spending spree because the GOP was getting things they wanted.

But they continue to pretend that they're concerned about the debt, even while adding to it massively with nary an offset in sight. And you continue to believe them.

This is the final budget before election campaigns ramp into high gear including POTUS. Recent history has shown such things are almost laden with more pork than a BBQ.

Republicans if nothing else have learned shutting down the government close to an election season is *NOT* a smart way to go, so........

What we got was good old fashioned horse trading. Since special items in theory were banned this dog of a bill gives members of the House ability to go home and brag on what they got for their local district, or didn't as the case maybe.

You'll notice all these "gimmies" are for four, five or beyond years if not permanent. Either way they will end long after the 2016 election cycle. That gives those in the House ability to kick the can of fiscal responsibility down the road. The Zadroga bill is case in point; it is extended until 2090. By then surely every current Congress member will be dead as will a bulk of the main recipients.
