That's a good point. Hobby Lobby would be another example of a Christian company in the US that made waves by applying their particular brand of Christian values to their company. I personally opted to stop shopping at Hobby Lobby at that point (which was a good thing for my budget, anyway ), and likewise would be unlikely to patronize this new airline. But in either case, I think it was the company's right to run their business as they see fit.
"Muslim-majority Malaysia has long practised a moderate form of Islam but conservative attitudes are rising."
There was a wise man named Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who realized such a backwards religion like Islam would prevent his country from progressing from the 6th century into the modern age. What he put in place resulted in the modern Secular country of Turkey. They too are reverting back to their primitive roots.
Yes, 'secularized' Islam is largely in retreat - or perhaps better to say, unadulterated Islam is becoming more strident. The proverbial two steps back ... in the early 21st century, yet.
"Muslim flight crew must don the hijab while non-Muslim crew are to be decently dressed, managing director Jaafar Zamhari told reporters.
There will also be prayer recitals before take-off.
"We are the first Malaysian airline to be shariah-compliant based on guidelines by relevant authorities. We are proud of this," Jaffar was quoted as saying by The Star newspaper."
Do the non-Muslim crew pay the tax?
El Nox
I wouldn't want to end up in the drink on any Muslim-flown airline. Egyptair in 1996 and Malaysia Air in 2014; a few too many.
I don't think that Islam should be protected under the 1st amendment. Islam poses a clear and present danger. Bringing Islam into western civilization is like screaming fire in a crowded theater.
Why do Muslims need to take religion and paste it everywhere?
It's extreme in nature and no wonder extremists come from there.
Same reason we here in America have everything from "In God We trust" on all our money to "One Nation, Under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance that good kids recite every day as they are instructed to do so.
While the concept of a religious themed airline is pushing it and honestly seems like a bad business decision, it's still downright laughable to act like "those people" are the only ones who shove religion in everyone's face. Of course, here it's OUR religion, not THEIR'S, so clearly it's ok...
And don't kid yourself - if there was any profit to be made in a preachy, evangelical themed airline, complete with constant gospel music and screams of JEEEEEEESUS!!!!! in this nation, we'd have it. There's just not enough money in it - yet - and money is, of course, the only real religion driving a lot of decisions these days.
