"Marchers protesting the killing of black teenager Laquan McDonald by a white police officer took over North Michigan Avenue on Friday morning at the height of post-Thanksgiving shopping in Chicago's most famous retail district. They blocked traffic and the entrances to many stores and caused other businesses to lock their doors in the biggest public display since the video of the incident was made public earlier this week."

Hundreds close stores, march on Mag Mile to protest Laquan McDonald killing - Chicago Tribune

As one protester said, people in power listen when money is involved. Let them feel the pain in empty cash registers on the busiest shopping day of the year in the most prestigious part of the city.

Blogo is looking better all the time.

Rhom shut the stores down while trying to not let a bad situation go to waste. Rohm needs to have more talks with his medical ethicist brother who worked on the PPACA and said that when obama said you could keep your doctor,PERIOD what he really meant, 'you can keep your doctor if you can afford to keep your doctor'.

With a group of guys so lacking ethics and council members so greedy they would cover up murder for the right price. Chicago was the one town that is accepting of such criminals to be. I'm no BLM fan but I'd march too and make sure that the blame was properly assigned and changes made at the top.

The situation in Chicago should have not taken over a year to deal with. Black Lives Matter should have given about a month of protesting and make sure the objective was clear, then issued a world wide boycott on the cities tourism. I can promise you the video release would have been done sooner and charges filed immediately. Possibly GJ hearing would be done and over.

Now Rahm, Cook Co prosecutor and many other elected officials are in hot water. This adds to the issues going on in Minneapolis shooting cases and the events taken place at the Trump rally. There is nolonger the need to try to justify the name Black Lives Matter movement.

Of course this all could have been avoided if the kid hadn't slashed a tire on a cruiser then walked down the street with knife in hand as the police closed in on him.
Of course this all could have been avoided if the cops had a taser to use on the young man. And this all could have been avoided if the Chicago PD had properly vetted this cop out and realized he was a loose cannon ready to go off..

I don't see how blocking stores and hurting the average Joe shop owner is going to do anything but perpetuate the stereotype that black folk don't play well with others.

The employees along Magnificent Mile will be hit financially. Only an ignorant fool would think otherwise. Stores adjust payroll/hours to sales so they will be cutting hours and employees who work on commission will be hit hard by the protests today.

You got that right, besides the internet is a wonderful shopping tool. You got to be crazy to deal with the Black Friday madness.

Why would any decent person want to become a police officer anymore, given recent events

427 Murdered in Chicago so far this year. Almost all of them Black and murdered by other Blacks.

Wonder why those Black lives don't matter to "Black Lives Matter".
