Alaska is a "taker" state. You can't expect them to pay for anything themselves.

Amazing. Whoever said trial lawyers - Walker - had a lick of common sense, much less business sense. An 'independent', who merged his campaign with the Democrat candidate. Figures.

Alaska relies way too much on oil and gas revenue, and oil and gas is way down and may not rise significantly until 2017.

This same problem is facing a lot of o&g states and countries....

its a 2.8% increase in medicaid spending for a state according to the CBO. The lewin report for Alaska puts the 2016 cost estimate at 14 million I think?

The Alaska state deficit for 2015? 3.5 BILLION.

Do the math. This is a trivial complaint by you. you really dont have any comprehension of the Alaska issues, but by golly you think the ACA medicaid expansion is somehow a source worth discussing

You forget that our government prints money out of thin air with no regard for deficits or the impact on our children or grand children. Stares however do not. Many states have seen a larger than expected growth in Medicaid which increased that 10%. Since states cannot just print money as needed it has to come from the people in taxes. Add to that these same working class people are already paying for the welfare state and a portion of other Obamacare enrollees through much higher premiums and the working class blue collar/small business owner is paying for much more than they should.

It bothers the hell out of me when people decided that it's free money. I can think of only two kinds of people that think this way. Either they have so much money they don't care or they are teet sucking entitlement folks.
Sadly, it's the blue collar worker that pays for the leeches.

"Budget."

greywar's heard of it. But preparations to meet forecast expenses that "ha(v)en't even happened yet" after a massive summer Medicaid eligibility increase?

The state of Alaska has spent too much money for years. But when oil and gas revenues were high it was easy for the politicians to do. Now it won't be. The solution isn't really a tax, but to cut the spending in serious ways. And to diversify the economy in the long run. Alaska's a pretty expensive place so for someone to lose even a few percent of their income to a tax , it could have a major impact on them financially. I bet this governor doesn't get another term. Previous governors managed to run the state with much lower oil prices.

A self-referential, self-justifying, Big Government state entity that now wants a state income tax to keep its fat, corpulent status-quo afloat, conceiving of the idea of spending cuts anywhere.

10% of a billion or two is nothing?? Classic liberal thinking.

Amazing people get so upset over the budgetary pitfalls caused when governments try to provide healthcare for more people at affordable costs but say nothing when corrupt Afghanistans attempt to bribe America with it's own money.

You folks have the most screwed up set of priorities on the planet.
