Oregon sheriff says refuge occupiers trying to overthrow government

"Harney County Sheriff David M. Ward said authorities from “several organizations” are working to peacefully resolve the standoff, which began Saturday when an unknown number of armed activists occupied an uninhabited building at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, about 30 miles outside the town of Burns, Ore.
“These men came to Harney County claiming to be part of militia groups supporting local ranchers, when in reality these men had alternative motives, to attempt to overthrow the county and federal government in hopes to spark a movement across the United States,” Ward said in a statement Sunday."

I think the Sheriff used the kindest terms possible to brand these people as Seditionst Rebels. And he's the leading LEO in the area.
LOL.....government learns its place these patriots wouldn't need to do what they are doing.

If the reports are true and they're holding onto control of a government building with guns, they should be taken out with guns.

Good point. Never go to a gunfight with just a knife or a piece of paper.

So what? That doesn't make arson suddenly not a crime.
The mentally ill relative who was 13 at the time of the fire? Yes, definitely lean on his testimony. Even the judge noted that his memory was not clear or consistent. The Hammonds were never convicted of arson. They were convicted years later on a trumped up "terrorism" charge, and they served their time. And then the federal government appealed to try to force them back to prison for more time on the same conviction and the liberal 9th Circuit allowed it. They are being sent back to jail because the government is mad that they won't sell their land.

You guy's can verbally "back and fill" all you want about "patriotism," and "taking back the land" but here is the government's position in a nutshell and one I agree with.
You boys better disarm and go back to weekend training in the woods for your jollies or a big, permanent S#!t storm will descend upon you.
Taking over an empty building in a federal refuge is not quite the same thing as trying to overthrowing the government. Or maybe they plan on taking the White House next?

Don't know how accurate this is but, if true, just another example of a a government (BLM) land grab. https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/723

That's not true at all.
They are being sent to jail because the Hammond's sons went out and slaughtered a whole herd of mule deer that had taken up residence on Federal Land that they had limited grazing permts on. They killed 7 in that shoot and wounded many more that took off and left numerous blood trails. The only reason they did it was out of greed as they worried their lease on that grazing land would not be renewed if too many wild herds moved in.
The only way they could cover up the crime was to burn all the evidence such as blood trails, etc. of the kill zone. So they burned the place down to cover up their act of pure greed and got caught. Everybody involved, ratted them out and they got convicted.......no questions asked.

And you and others call these guy's patriots?????????

Tell it to the Harney Co. Sheriff. He's the leading LEO in the county and that's his official statement on the matter. I hope those phony patriots know how to dig their hole deep.

I didn't call anyone a patriot, but these land owners have been through years of abuse by the BLM, trying to flood them out, fence off the water supply, etc. There is no evidence and no conviction of any poaching. They were convicted on trumped up terrorism charges, they served their time, and a vindictive federal government is now forcing them back to prison for more time on the same conviction.

Bundy and the far right posters here are making the same mistake that the Weather Underground and Black Panthers made back in the '60s and '70s. Americans tend to like things like freedom and justice in abstract form but they are terrified of radicals walking around with guns saying they are going to impose their particular version of "freedom and justice". The bulk of Americans are largely apolitical and are scared to death of armed radicals. Just like the '60s revolutionaries drove middle America to Nixon and Reagan, these guys and those of you who support them are going to push middle America to the left.
