Would you like to see the posts that were made in this forum by the anti gun crowd that were crowing how Texas would be a bloodbath due to the passage of open carry?
Comparing a state to a city, makes sense. Texas has a higher gun murder rate than Illinois (Chicago is a city in that state), so the obvious solution is open carry.

Open carry is supposed to make a country safer (good guy with a gun and all that). So Texas' murder rate in 2016 should go down and be lower than Illinois not higher. We shall see.

Overall...
Let us try per capita.
Murder rate Illinois 2014: 5.3 per 100,000
Murder rate Texas 2014: 4.4 per 100,000
Houston and Dallas have very little to brag about on the topic of violent crime and homicides.
