"ALBANY — As the start of a sweeping statewide push to involuntarily remove homeless people from frigid streets loomed on Monday, questions about the practicality and impact of the plan continued to dog its architect, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.

"Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, announced on Sunday that he would use an executive order to compel the police, state agencies and social service providers to seek out and in some cases forcibly move homeless people to shelters when the temperature falls below 32 degrees."

Like Moscow under Brezhnev, one must keep up appearances.

From the article:
Quote:
“I don’t see it changes anything in what we actually do or what we have done for 20 years,” William J. Bratton, the city’s police commissioner, said on Monday.
Quote:
“At this point,” Mr. de Blasio said, “it seems to simply reiterate what’s already in the law and the power we already have to bring people in off the streets. And we use that power.”
But of course you turn the idea of getting the homeless off the streets in below freezing weather into something bad. Uh huh.

So if it's already a law, as deBlasio said, then why the need for an "executive order" from the Governor ?

HORRIFYING! I live in NYC and the thought of becoming homeless and FORCED into a city shelter sounds revolting to me. I'd kick and scream and ***** pretty bad. This almost makes me want to camp out one night this winter just to see them try force me into a shelter.

That said I have noticed an extraordinary amount of homeless people on the streets in the last two years.

Oh no! Not put homeless people in shelters while it's below freezing out! They should pull themselves up by their bootstraps and find a place to live. I ran a diner when I was just 13 years old, the owner quit and put me in charge! If I can do it every single person can do it and these leeches freezing on the sidewalk blocking my path to work shouldn't be helped on my dime!

You're talking about 50 years ago. Ah, yeah, I think most don't know or care
