This isn't getting covered in the mainstream media, or if it is, it's as a brief mention. Appears that a mass crowd of over a thousand migrant men from North Africa and Middle East groped, tore clothing off of, and even raped German women as the women tried to reach the train station on New Year's Eve.
Wonder why this is being downplayed in the media? No report of it on NPR, CNN, NYT whatsoever. And it happened five days ago.
Yet to this day whenever there are anti-migrant/refugee protests, there are pro-migrant/refugee counter protests that are even larger. Germany is getting what it is asking for, basically. Hard to feel much sympathy. Hopefully we can learn from their mistakes, but it is unlikely. Political correctness is a powerful mental disease.
Germany like all signatories to UN protocols HAS to accept migrants. Germany, Sweden, Canada and most of the other Scandinavian countries have manned up; all others: not so much. Apparently this occurred in several cities on New Years. I don't like the idea of re-opening "camps" but they just might have to do just that. Thanks, guys. You're beyond being idiots.
Well, nearly a week later, it has finally hit NPR and nytimes. German officials are back pedalling so fast they are tripping over themselves. They're saying, " Put the migrants to work. That will socialize them." or "It wasn't migrants. It was second generation middle eastern and North African German citizens."
I guess a lifetime in German schools and culture failed to transmit to them that it's not nice to sexually assault women en masse in public.
"Teach the women how not to fall victim to such assaults.". How, by staying home and not going out? "Teach the migrants about our culture." You mean tell them that it's not culturally acceptable in Europe to commit mass sexual assault on women on the streets, even though this is culturally acceptable across the Muslim world?
This massive influx of Muslims who do not share Europe's liberal values means the end of the EU, and the end of liberalism there. Next elections will see a massive shift to right wing, anti immigrant, anti Muslim parties.
When you take people from a culture that routinely treats women as objects and as second class citizens and parachute them into a culture where women have equal rights and where they are respected then you have a recipe for trouble.
Until it is routinely shown that Islam is wrong, and people are to be treated with equal respect, your wasting time, because right now according to all their teaching they believe that you are there to serve them, which you are doing accommodating them, like a cow.

Cultural attitudes, of which religion or religious tradition is an integral part, has everything to do with these crimes.
Alcohol and mob mentality no doubt also played a part.
When my daughter went to university in Scotland she noticed a very different attitude towards women from men in the British Asian community as compared to other Scots. And this is largely down to culture.

It's not just "women", it's non Muslim women. They are nothing to these people.
There is no equality in most Muslim countries. Women are nothing; they are there to serve the men.
You don't change that mindset. That is part of their culture, their religion and their law.
For what it is worth, it is one of the top stories on CNN today.
It is an awful story, and I do hope that Cologne is able to find and prosecute the guilty men and do more to keep their citizens and residents safe in the future.
I have to agree with Cryptic, though - this comes down to a mob behaving badly. I was caught up in a mob like this once - quite a scary experience - but the mob in that case was made up of white skinheads. My friends and I were lucky to find a secure hiding place, but there were other women out in the same area that night who were not so lucky. Cologne has said it will respond with greater police presence at gatherings on the street before they get out of hand like this one. That seems like a prudent response.
