re: cars, we DO try to make it harder for dangerous people to get behind a wheel. We require insurance, updated license every so often, etc. That point has been time and again, and you'll never get it, so I'm done bothering with you. If you want to be in league with the NRA that's your choice, but a growing majority of Americans do not accept mass carnage and violence as an acceptable price to freedom and democracy.
And NOTHING Obama has done will change ANY of that.

I would think law abiding gun owners would embrace this.

The way it is now when shootings happen the focus as a whole becomes all about gun control. But look at it this way, if Obama implements a few common sense gun reforms, the next time a shooting happens gun owners can then say well see even with more gun control shootings still happen.
"a few common sense gun reforms" That begs the question.

Under Obama, if I want to sell my son a gun or 2, I HAVE to get a federal firearm license, which takes about a year and at great cost.

One would think I would no my sons background and know if he is a convicted criminal or mentally incapable of owning a gun.

Is THAT what you call "common sense"?

They buy/lease automobiles and use them to commit violent crimes, no? And automobiles deaths are higher than gun deaths.

358 million guns owned in the U.S., 32,000 gun deaths per year of which 60% are suicides.

253 million automobiles (includes trucks) in the U.S., just under 33,000 automobile deaths per year.

You do the math... which is deadlier... guns or automobiles?

Nope. You are not a dealer. You don't even have to sell them. Just gift them. If he happens to pay you back the money he borrowed at the same time that's a bonus.

Clearly, you don't understand the meaning of...

Infringe: act so as to limit or undermine (something); encroach on. "His legal rights were being infringed."

Geez, just GIVE it to him. What a miser! Then don't forget to inform the proper authorities that your son owns a gun; make, model, serial number. Then, on the off-chance your son shoots someone with said gun, it won't come back on you!

You didn't answer my question.

In order to drive a car, one must have a license and training on how to drive a car. No comparison.

As President Obama said, what about our other rights? The right to peaceful assembly (theatre shooting), the right to live one's life (Sandy Hook)?

What about THOSE rights? They are less important than someone's desire to shoot people and having the means to do so?
It's who gets to decide what sort of "mental" issue prohibits owning a gun. Postpartum depression 30 years ago - history of mental illness. Depression as a teenager - history of mental illness. Sought marriage counselling - history of mental illness.

PLEASE, will one of you gun grabbers PLEASE tell me how a background check would have stopped any of the shootings that you all love to trot out as a reason to grab guns.
