Do you ever wonder what it was like when we had common values, common religion, a real culture?

Nope.

Never had to wonder.

I grew up then.

It's better now in some ways, not as good in others.

Ah, yes, the wonderful, mythical '50s. As a woman, though, my only choices for a career were a teacher or a nurse--and then only until I found a good man and stayed home to have babies and clean the house.

Nope, I don't miss that at all.

My grandmothers managed...oh and they both MANAGED the home...my grandfathers brought the money in but my grandmothers dished it out to bills, mortgage etc. I can remember my father telling me my grandmother would give my grandfather 20$ for the week that was gas and after work going out with the guys to the bar they had seats at.

According to polls that have been conducted over time, women in the 1950s were much happier than women are today.

Did you ever wonder if your grandmother had any dreams of her own? You know, for herself, not related to a husband and kids? Not that it mattered, because as a woman, her life choices were very narrow.

Wow, they had the right to manage the house? Sounds like women back then had it GOOD!
