Nope and before I retired, I was self-employed so I paid more than most.

Nah. I like having paved roads to drive on and bridges to go over rivers so I don't have to stop and wait for a ferry. I like having sidewalks in cities and parks for my grandchildren. I like knowing that I have fire and police services, airports so when I take a flight we don't have to land in a field, and public servants available in public buildings when I have questions or want to complain.

Speaking of public servants, I like having a government that is large enough that I don't have to wait in long lines to speak to one. I like the fact that there are food inspectors, environmental protection, health inspectors, the CDC, and public lands set aside and protected as national and state forests and parks for public use. The United States has more diversity in vacation opportunities that haven't been ruined by unlimited commercial fishing, hunting, logging, mining, and development than most countries. I love that those controls insure that future generations will also be able to enjoy the same things that I have through the years.

Is the system perfect? Not by a long shot. Do I like the fact that my taxes are used for an arguably unnecessarily large military since the Cold War ended? No. Do I like that my taxes are used to pay for wars that should have never been started? Absolutely not. Do I like paying the salaries of a Congress that doesn't care to move the country forward through serious and intelligent negotiation and compromise? I do not. Do we still need things we don't have, such as Single-payer UHC (which every other first-word country has except the U.S., and Iraq, too, at our expense and the insistence of George W. Bush), adequate housing for veterans, affordable higher education available to all who want it, an end to the Drug War boondoggle, and a lot of other things that would create a list too long for this forum? We sure do.

Nah. Taxes are fine. If we want to live in a free society, these are the dues we pay. Anyone who wants freedom without responsibilities is no patriot in any society. If they don't want to pay for what they use they need to move to a country that doesn't impose taxes on the citizenry.

Good luck finding one.

Yep. Just paid my last estimated quarterly tax payment yesterday. People who aren't self-employed don't realize how much more we pay in taxes, but more and more people will as independent contractors replace employees going forward. And boy, are people in for a rude awakening.

As my 102 year old Grand-mother always told me before she died: "It is not a sin to pay taxes, it means that you are successful and made money!

I may noy like what my taxes are paying for, but I mad money and happily pay my share

"The poor man needs the money through out the year to put food on their table, yet it isn't available until end of year. With 25% missing out of each pay check, that's a chunk for the poor man, where as to the rich man it barely scratches the surface of their finance. So which one has a better understanding of their freedoms lost, and who profits most in this society, from the loss? Very simple accounting really in the area of finance and government.

Be that as it may, "In God we Trust" is a symbol of freedom that is clearly an illusion in this country and the illusion was created by man. Makes sense to me to remove the illusion from the money. Maybe then man might wake up and realize he created a prison for himself on this earth."

This was posted in another thread earlier and this is the kind of thing that puzzles me. Do people not consult with tax accountants? These are the things that are said by people that don't have a clue that spawns the anti government anti taxation mentality. This guy is genuinely angry at America because he has to pay his way...yet in reality he pays nothing....WTF!
I responded with this:
"Remember, since it's so terrible here there are many other countries in this giant world that would love to have you. There's an awesome country just to the south of us with beautiful beaches. You will pay zero income tax there since you won't find economy and or a job. Just a reminder that you have options.
File 99 dependents on your W-4 and hold nearly all your cash all year long...problem solved and now you're a proud American again...simple."

I just can't wrap my head around some things...maybe I'm the one lost.

The people who don't complain are the leeches living off the taxes paid by the productive.

I don't complain about taxes, and since I'm 3 years away, I REALLY don't complain about the SS taxes, but what I DO complain about is how they waste the money. EX: $ 387,000 to study the effects of Swedish Massage on rabbits.

Do you even know what your real tax rate is? Or do you just hear and read these large numbers someone somewhere may be paying and debate on their behalf just for the sake of complaining? Are you the type that thinks paying even one dollar is to much? You'd rather just pass the expense on to the next guy...right? Don't be a free-loader...pay your way and stop whining!
Remember millions of bottom feeders are counting on your tax dollars.
Your post is garbage. People who pay little don't complain nearly as much as those that pay more.

If you mean property tax when you say real estate taxes, everyone pays real estate taxes.
Yea everyone keep paying. Since you're so gung ho I bet you pay more than you owe right? pfffftt
That's what I want to do, pay into the Federal government for sub par quality, for things that I'll never use and never benefit from.
Do as you're told mundane.

GRRRR NO, poor people do not consult with tax accountants.

He's probably also angry that The Rent Is Too Damn High, without understanding his larger problem is the erosion of property rights.
