This probably belongs in "Current Events" but i am sure the arguments will end up here.

Well, now we have legislators trying to curtail the freedom of the press.

This comes from a satire site, right?

So much for the Republicans being the party of freedom.

I'm not seeing any curtailment.

Real bona fide journalists are shielded from revealing sources.

You think all Republicans are Constitutional Conservatives??
You forgot, the first President classified as "Progressive" against the Constitution, was a Republican.

What a bunch of morons. "Mr. Frankin, you must register with the government and pay a fee before you print any more of your almanacs".

Everyone has a 5th amendment. Which means, government has to pull unconstitutional maneuvers to get around it(punishment and violence is their go to in the arsenal) What was that 2nd amendment for again?

lmao Very nice.

Rather, it’s to stimulate discussion over how he sees Second Amendment rights being treated by the printed press and television news. He added that the bill is modeled directly after the “concealed weapons permitting law.”

“It strikes me as ironic that the first question is **constitutionality** from a press that has no problem demonizing firearms,” Pitts said. “With this statement I’m talking primarily about printed press and TV. The TV stations, the six o’clock news and the printed press has no qualms demonizing gun owners and gun ownership.”

Under the bill, the Secretary of State’s Office would be tasked with keeping a “responsible journalism registry” and creating the criteria with the help of a panel on what qualifies a person as a journalist — similar to doctors and lawyers, Pitts said.

from the link in the OP

Bill Rogers, executive director of the South Carolina Press Association, said he’d lobby hard against the measure, which he said he found bizarre.

**“Any registration of journalists would be unconstitutional — unless you lived in Cuba or North Korea,” Rogers told The Associated Press.**

Ah, yes, another great idea from those Republican champions of "small government."
