Absolutely nothing but their liberty, which to you is worth less than a business or a home.

That's why we should pay reparations to all former slaves still living. Just like we did for the Japanese who were interned. Reparations weren't paid to their descendants and rightly so. They weren't the victims.
Everyone is led to believe that the “evil” white man was enslaving the black man, and therefore “owes” reparations for being a beneficiary of the suffering of slaves.
However, the fact that at the peak of black slavery in the South, only SIX PERCENT of Southern whites owned slaves. If you include the white people in the North, it means that only 1.4 percent of white Americans owned black slaves at the height of slavery.
98.6 percent had NOTHING to do with it.
Were blacks innocent?
According to the U.S. Census of 1830, in just the one town of Charleston, SC, 407 black Americans owned slaves themselves. One study concluded that 28% of free blacks owned slaves, which is a higher percentage than that of free whites who owned slaves.

Those who could get away with slavery, did so -whether Chinese, Indian, Muslim, or European.

But taking a man away from his homeland and forcing him into free labor and subjugation isn't emblematic of losing anything because they didn't have a house or business.

The percentage of whites that owned slaves were the ones that could afford slaves. If more could afford them, they would've.
Free blacks often bought family members out of slavery.
But let's not try to pretend that blacks were normal members of the slave owning class...an elite exclusively white class in the south.

I agree with you. Slaves lost their liberty, their dignity and any choice in their fate. Slaves lost all that made them human. Even the allegedly well treated slaves lost what we hold hold dear today and that is our liberty. Unfortunately in the day it was an accepted practice and not just by a small percentage of whites, but by other blacks and Africans and asians.
Like you I don't believe in reparations. Not one living American owned slaves pre-civil war and not one former slave is alive today. No reparation is due.
Not a race war, but a war against congress. The citizenry would quickly win. The cool thing would be that the government would be made to pay reparations back to ALL the people.
Yes it would as it would be another way for those "in charge" to keep us separated.
Now as far as reparations, and I'll be civil about it but surely not PC.
Why reparations? Why even think about them? Just an excuse to get something for free and doing absolutely nothing for them. I'll come out and say, now that slavery in this country has been over for 150 years and nobody here in this time had anything to do with it, that the ones here in this time whose ancestors were enslaved actually benefit from it. So why should you get paid for their hardships? Think about it for a minute!
If your ancestors weren't brought over here how do you think your life would be now? Be truthful and look at the modern versions of the country's they came from. Not much different now then they were then, are they? What opportunities are available in those places?
Here there is opportunity. One just has to try! That's it. Simple really! And before anybody says not for black people, why not just look in Washington. A black president so nobody can say there is no way to move up if your black. Pure B f'n S.
So yes, you bet there will be problems if some nonsense like that was passed. But I am pretty sure nothing like that would ever pass. I believe it's just a few of the vocal and lazy minority that are even bringing it up as I'm sure the majority of blacks who actually want to better themselves and are successful aren't expecting or wanting anything.
So ignorant and uneducated. Make an attempt to gain more exposure.
