However, the video still shows the BLM lighting fires, and letting them burn out of control, and leading to cattle being burned alive, and destroying private property, including homes. The fire was left burning long after a fire break was established. There were personnel available to control the fires, but no effort was make to stop the fires before they reached private property.
Yes they created some backfires- from the BLM report, they did quite a bit more but this was ignored in the hijacked video

Local Coordination – Local landowners and permittees were engaged from the initial attack on. A member of the Incident Management Type 3 Team stated, "Local folks worked well with BLM staff during those first few days. There was lots of coordination. BLM crews helped cut fences, open gates and secure cattle." A landowner and permittee stated," They worked with me on letting me build direct line that saved important feed from being part of a backfire. They got ideas from me for tying in black line, and it worked."

So - no "message sent". "Days after the Hammonds are sentenced" was not the case at all. The video in fact shows efforts to reduce the damage from a fire set by lightning.

Remind us again why occupying a wildlife refuge was a rational idea?

Days after the Hammonds are sentenced, BLM sets fires in July (the dry season) that burns cattle alive, destroys houses, corrals, fences and telephone poles, then refuses to pay for damages. There are reports that up to 80 head of cattle are burned alive in BLM fires.

BLM prescribed burns are never done in the summer months because of the extreme danger of fires getting out of control, and posing threats to humans, wildlife, cattle, natural plant life, and public and private property. It also destroys summer grass that cattle graze on.

Video shows the BLM starting fires, up wind of private property, despite the extreme danger it causes to the property occupants, and their cattle. Some fires are set within 100 feet of corrals with cattle inside. No effort is made to control the fires. The video also show cattle that have been burned.

The BLM also stops, and threatens ranchers with arrest when they attempt to help save neighboring ranchers property, and livestock.

Put aside whatever you may think of the Bundys, and Hommands, and watch the video.

The Frenchglen/Miller fire was started by lightning strikes and burned almost 160,000 acres before it was controlled.

No where in your article does it say the fire was started by lightening........only BLM is reporting this, local news was not. There was no lightening storm that weekend.

From your own article a comment by a reader: I'd like to see some reporting on how decisions were made on response to this fire. Was Oregon left to go up in flames while neighboring states recieved all of the resources? The fire started on Sunday - there was virtually no response, except by local ranchers, until Thursday. This whole disaster, loss of livestock and habitat and the cost of fighting an out of control fire could have been avoided by early response.

This is how the fire got near Frenchglen.......seems people including PETA and the Humane Society don't care that BLM torched cows alive!
(Note to readers: The first 12-plus minutes of the video focuses primarily on the development of the fire; at about 12:40 there is more concentrated footage showing the BLM fire starters in action and the dead and injured cattle.)
In the video interview below, Harney County rancher John Witzel provides his account of the BLM’s actions regarding the Frenchglen/Miller Homestead. Among other things, Witzel recounts watching the BLM employees spreading the fire on and near his property. He called neighboring ranchers to warn them that the flames would soon head their way when the wind picked up. None of them had been warned by the BLM; in fact they had been told that everything was fine and there was no danger
Oregon Standoff: BLM

Notice while watching the video, the ground is not wet.......because there was no storm that weekend. What is most disturbing, American citizens followed the instructions from our government to burn these people out and intentionally kill the cattle in a brutal way......how can anyone support this, let alone believe the BLM came to help!

Also, notice the guy taking the video mentions firefighters along with having snack breaks......I have drove by the camps and have seen the firefighters playing cards while the fire behind them is blazing. Something is wrong and many fail to go to these fire camps and see what is really going on!

There isn't always rain during lightning storms. So the ground wouldn't necessarily be wet.

That image says that it was started by lightning on the 8th.

This is flat out offensive. You obviously have NO IDEA how a fire camp operates.

Well, I do. Wildfire fighters work a 6-hour shift. It is HOT HARD ****ING DANGEROUS work. And when they come off their shift, they get to take showers, because they're covered with soot. Then they get to eat as much as they want, because they really burn up a lot of calories. Then they get to relax however they please while another crew goes out, because they need the rest.

And the support staff ALL work at least 12 hour shifts. And guess what - they get to relax too when they get a chance. And if they can - it can be hard to wind down when you are flooded with adrenaline.

I'd better shut up before I get highly offensive.

You people are funny, the video claims this happened in 2015, how did all the newspapers miss this fire
that burned 500,000 acres? If it's legitimate how did was the video off by 3 years?

But you are right about one thing the article didn't state lightning, it didn't indicate any cause.
Here is another article that indicates lightning.

Quote:

Wildfires - July 2012

The Long Draw Fire which burned in a remote region of southeastern Oregon charred nearly 560,000 acres during July. The fire was ignited by a lightning strike on July 8th and was fully contained by the end of the month. The impacts of the fire were limited due to the rural location, with only a few ranchers losing cattle. The Long Draw Fire was the largest fire to impact Oregon since the 1840s, and surpassed 2002's Biscuit Fire in terms of acreage burned, which charred 500,000 acres. More than 480 firefighters were called to battle the blaze to prevent it from reaching populated areas.

There's frequently lightning out there with no rain during the summer. Very interesting how people who have never stepped foot in eastern Oregon are now experts on the weather there.
