This eyewitness account sheds a bit of light. In an interview with the Oregonian, Shawna Cox says a couple of interesting things. The "bullets" that bounced off the glass were apparently sponge bullets, and the ones that went through the windows were tear gas canisters, which underscores LE reports. She does not mention any shots being fired through the roof of the vehicle. Shawna was below window level after the stop with Victoria and could not see Finicum when he was shot, and when she stepped out she noticed that he had died with his hat and glasses on and she couldn't see any blood, which is hardly consistent with him being shot in the face. This dispels a lot of "facts" from early reports.

Let's face it, this debacle continues to be like the Wild Wild West. Everyone has guns pointed at everyone else.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

& everyone thinks they have 'God on their side.'

And which would be good procedure when dealing with carloads of people who've repeatedly expressed their intent to go out fighting.

Good link, thanks. This one statement makes me wonder if Finicum watched too many episodes of "Dukes of Hazzard":

Quote:
"LaVoy is nervous at this point," Cox said. "He does not want to stop. He's isn't stopping. He said, 'We're going to see the sheriff.'" ... Finicum felt Palmer could protect the occupiers if they could just get to him, she said.
The FBI and Oregon State Police isn't going to say "Oh, drat!" and let you go because you make it across the county line. That's letting television tropes doing the thinking for you. I wonder when those characters realized that that it's not a game. Like with the 4 holdouts who "just want to go home" - there are lines you can't cross and then expect to walk away from.

Except one side hasn't pointed guns at anyone, or hurt anyone.

You break the law, you get arrested. And law enforcement is not obligated to take the first round.

General Fatton's call for reinforcements with the lovely exhortation "if they stop you from getting here, KILL THEM!" underlines that the Bundyites at least are fine with expressing their desire to get in an armed fight with police. They have so far mostly been denied one, and that's a good thing.

For all we know some, or all of the holdouts are plants.

The four holdouts do not represent this movement any more than the people rioting, looting, and killing represent all the the members of BLM, or their cause.

That's not the story from the four still at the refuge.

Blaine Cooper does represent them, and he was allowed to attend Finicum's funeral unmolested. He's my vote for a plant, set free to gather info on other screwball militias who might be looking to start trouble. If my hunch is right, the next time this nonsense is tried the perps won't even make it to their target.

There were thousands of people involved in the Ferguson protests, most were very peaceful. They were critical of the very small fringe element most who came from outside the area who took advantage of the situation. The large majority of community leaders and residents never felt the need to carry guns in their peaceful protest. There probably 50 people at the refuge, many had either prior arrests or arrest warrants, they were not plants and if there was a plant they would have left by now.

Keep in mind that the Ferguson protest was almost entirely local, this protest at the refuge was basically outside trouble makers taking advantage of what they thought was the perfect event.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet. It's Shawna Cox's account of what happened inside the vehicle driven by Finicum leading up to his death. This part stood out to me:

Quote:
"Cox, who said she's familiar with guns, said at least five rounds of some type hit the passenger window in her door but didn't break it. One round left a black mark.

The FBI said that only nonlethal rounds, including the pepper spray canisters and sponge rounds, were fired into the truck. Police also deployed small explosives known as "flash bangs."

So much for the meme that hundreds of live shots were fired at and into the vehicle.

I also find it amusing that the occupants inside the truck were trying to call 911. What did they think the emergency operators would tell them other than, "Pull the vehicle over and surrender immediately."
