How many ways does our various governments, Local, State and Federal, pick winners over the losers and in no way treat everyone equally, in a lost effort sucking tax revenues to make everyone equal in governments eyes?
Tax rates that are tied to a moment in time, like here in California where your property tax is determined by the price you paid when purchasing your house. So you could have neighbors paying tens of thousands of dollars difference while living in the same house. This benefits older individuals at the expense of younger generations.
Most states have (or allow municipalities to have) higher property taxes on rental property than on owner-occupied homes.
Many municipalities have "unrelated occupancy" limits which are more restrictive than the limits for families. e.g. I knew a family of six that lived in a house while it would have been illegal for three unrelated individuals to live in the same house.
Arizona allows cities and counties to impose a tax on the rental of real property. One city imposes this tax on residential rentals to "multiple unrelated tenants" but not to rentals to individuals or families.
