Southern Republicans are bringing back segregation on a college campus? (enemies, illegal)

The University of Connecticut is hoping that black males will graduate at a higher rate if they spend more time with one another, and is building a new residence hall to facilitate just that.
"It is a space for African American men to, one, come together, and validate their experiences that they may have on campus," he explained. "Number two, it's also a space where they can have conversation and also talk with individuals who come from the same background who share the same experience."
The specialized housing does not—quite—constitute a "segregated" residence, as it is currently optional, much like the "affinity housing" that other schools have put in place to serve as a "safe space" for minority students.
Isn’t segregation illegal? This really is all too confusing.
I think you mean southern democrats, after all, they did oppose desegregation. It's always amazes me the liberals racist interpretation of what's good for blacky is embraced with such righteousness. The implication is the black person is incapable of making their way in this world with out the liberal protection. They've manipulated the black community to believing only democrats can be their savior, as if black people self-determination is impossible with out the democrat.
I mean, segregation is illegal and racist, but it seems to be a righteous solution here.

The black only dorm named ScHOLA²RS stands for “Scholastic House Of Leaders who are African American Researchers and Scholars” is set to open in the fall.
People tend to be more likely to hang out with people of their own race anyway, and that's fine. We'll tend to have more in common with people of our race than those not. I don't see this as immoral. But...I don't want anyone complaining when students set up entirely white Nordic history study groups.
Of course, it would be 'segregation' if the black males choosing to attend the U of Conn HAD to live in said dormitory, which itself is only part of a new, 220,000 square foot facility being built.
But they don't have to. This article has some interesting statements in it:

It's racial segregation, no two ways about it, being forced is only an order of magnitude worse.
Quote:
Segregation itself is defined by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance as "the act by which a (natural or legal) person separates other persons on the basis of one of the enumerated grounds without an objective and reasonable justification, in conformity with the proposed definition of discrimination.
I really do not think an argument revolving around "blacks will do better if they hang out with other blacks" is objective or reasonable, considering this is the same argument white separatist use, and is largely denounced.
Quote:
Discrimination is treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing is perceived to belong to rather than on individual merit.
"Force" is the convenient little word liberals insert, as if its relevant, to assuage any guilt about segregating blacks. Force is not the determining factor in what racial segregation is. I mean seriously, who do you think came up with the idea for low-income housing? Kind of a defacto-jim crow deal. It's no surprise that minorities (due to their impoverished state) would flood into low income housing, thereby segregating and isolating them from the community.
The southern democrat lives on, only now its politically correct.

I had to check and make sure this wasn't from the Onion.
This is interesting:
"African American males graduate at a lower rate than their peers," Dr. Erik Hines, Faculty Director for the initiative, told Fox61, noting that African-American males graduated at a rate of only 54 percent last year, compared to 82.5 percent for the campus as a whole."
This is a problem that has been manufactured by left-wing policies that lower admission standards for Blacks in the name of "fairness" and the desire to have a diverse student body. In essence, Blacks are admitted into schools they're not prepared for and end up struggling. The school can proudly boast how diverse their campus is, but they couldn't care less if they actually graduate or not.
I think it's pretty cool. UConn is a HUGE school, I see this as no different than living and learning communities for Greeks, Honors, Athletes, Majors, Gender, Sexual Orientation etc... Starting off a freshman these smaller communities help students to find a "home" within a massive university.
If you don't like it, don't live there. It's a nice option, nothing mandatory and is also a great bit of PR for the admissions department. Anything to entice more students.
