The future of the 2nd Amendment rides on this election

Continuing her streak of adopting terrible (and perhaps planted) suggestions raised at campaign stops, Clinton on Tuesday called the appointment of Barack Obama to the U.S. Supreme Court “a great idea,” according to an article in the Washington Examiner.
Roberts has been Chief Justice for 10 years. He is 60 I think. He might retire in 5 or 10 years.
But the only one who decides when he retires is himself, no one else. Not the President, not the Senate.
Of course he might have some serious illness or die but barring those he will likely be on the Court for many more years.
Actually I would think the timing is about right. Obama will need to harvest the speaker circuit for a few years where he will be much in demand. After he gets his 50 or 100 million he can go on the court. So five or ten years out would be about right.
And Obama need not be chief justice...though he could eventually end up there even with an interim appointment as a justice.

Thats possible I suppose. But Obama would be in his 60s in that time-frame and generally appointments to the Supreme Court are younger, primarily to those who are likely to serve on the Court for 10 or 20 years (or longer) before retiring.
Supreme Court justices usually need experience as a Justice or Judge on a lower Federal or State Court or a senior member of a State or the Federal Department of Justice. Now Obama has a Harvard Law degree and headed the Harvard Law Review in his Senior year. Now I would consider appointing him to the Federal Appellate Court for a few years like Ms Sotomayor (who after being an assistant DA in NY sat on the Federal Appellate Court in New York) and them promote him a few years later. The same for Eric Holder!
