This may be a stupid question...

Many of us observed the biases that, say, NBC mods have shown during the debates, favoring Clinton over Sanders. (Never mind if you don't think so, but as long as you agree certain news stations have bias toward presidential candidates) My question is: is this a tacit understanding among the news station's employees, or were they somehow given the instruction to be pro-X and anti-Y (e.g. favoring Clinton and being against Sanders, just as an example)? Did it come from the very top of the station, say CEO or president of NBC, who dictate whoever writes the debate questions in certain biased ways? (what if a mod personally favors Sanders over Clinton? He/she would still have to ask the prepared questions against his/her own will?)

Most likely the best answer is 'What ever will generate an increase in ratings" That is all they would care about. The rest is just a means to a end.

Regardless whether you saw or not, media biases exist. My question is about that in general.

You wouldn't have to ask them.
It would start with who you choose to hire and their already slanted views of the world all but guaranteeing their version of events would match what you want to present.

I don't think the media bias is intentional or that orders to be biased towards one candidate or another come down from on high.

However, most people in the media are biased toward liberals. When the executives and the reporters and the news anchors etc are all biased in the same direction, the collective effect of that is media bias.

It's the same with intraparty debates. Most people in the media are probably in favor of Hillary Clonton, therefore, the collective effect of all the people who run the media ends up in a bias toward her.

The one with the gold makes the rules.

In this case, that would be whoever owns or runs NBC.

He/she owns the gold as far as NBC employees are concerned.

Clinton is the candidate of the corporations, so it isn't surprising that NBC would favor Clinton.

Survey after survey show that most national media people are dems.

They support abortion, Affirmative Action, do not believe in God, are against guns, support gay "rights" etc.

So, yes, there is a BIG bias in the big media and it leans very left.

Take just 1 example. When was the last time you read or saw a news show tell a story where a gun was used to thwart a crime?

When was the last time you read or saw a story where the white guy, police or not, shot a black guy?

Why isn't black on black crime in news stories yet ANY time a black is killed by a white it is on EVERY station?

The list is long on the bias in the big media.

Now we will hear from the left whining about FOX being to the right, which most people agree with but, it doesn't compare when you put 1 station against ALL the other news outlets that are to the left.

Many TV shows shown on the big 3 have been pushing the "gay" agenda(many people in Hollywood are gay) for years figuring if they show it enough, people will come to accept it.

Walt Disney probably turned over in his grave many times at some of the things Disney productions have produced.

As clearly evidenced by the incessant media advertising of Trump...

This presumes the OP's view that moderators noticeably show favoritism to certain candidates. A good moderate will not.

I watched the Feb 4th Democratic Presidential Debate. I didn't notice any favoritism from either Rachel Maddow nor Chuck Todd. In fact, the moderators spoke very little and their questions came mainly from ordinary people.

NBC has been the Obama support channel. That crown will now be passed to Clinton and they will do everything possible to get her elected.
