Socialism isn't a curse word in Scandinavia. They have a population of rational people.
We've spent a century commie baiting. That has left us brainwashed and not in a good way either.
I think we in America probably haven't done a good job of portraying our economy as a mixed economy which it is.
I like our U.S system because it works for us. This is why I'm not big on people thinking we should be like a Denmark or Sweden. Their particular mixed economic systems work for them and their particular circumstances.
Norway: $499,667,000
City of Los Angeles: $765,759,000
Denmark: $314,889,000
City of Boston: $336,232,000
Sweden: $523,804,000
City of Chicago: $571,000,000
Finland: $247,389,000
City of Atlanta: $294,589,000
You're comparing metropolitan area (not city) GDP's with those of countries. And in the case of LA vs. Norway, metro LA has a population nearly three times the size of Norway.
In the Socialist/Capitalist mix, those countries are about 50% Socialist and the USA is about 26% Socialist...I prefer 26% but there's no doubt there are advantages of having a greater Socialist portion of your economy.
We aren't "afraid" of Sweden; we're afraid of becoming Sweden.
Most struggling middle class American republicans are trained to blow the horn for the top 0.1% elite that runs the country. I am always saddened to see how they support a system that prevents them from getting out of the hole.

Sorry, but your figures are for the entire metro areas and not for the cities. You should take some tutoring about this topic.
And much more important:
Its absurd to compare the GDP of metro areas with the GDP of entire countries. Rents are an important part of the economic performance. Many people in Boston pay $2,000 for rundown apartments. For the same amount of money you can rent 3 nice apartments in Denmark.
