There are some truly needy people out there who I don't mind getting some assistance. But there are also many who take advantage of the system, people who choose laziness. People who pop out kids knowing it will get them money/benefits and they neglect their kids. There's a small branch of my family (cousins) who are true welfare bums. One of them got $11,000 in their tax return because of all the kids they claimed. They work just long enough to be qualified for various programs each year then quit their jobs. They sell food stamps for drugs or money to go to a casino. They rob people. Total bums. There needs to be drug testing of recipients every month or more often. They need to be looking for work if not truly disabled and given work to do if able bodied. We need to amend the tax code to take away incentives to have lots of kids.
Of course we need to also do away with the unfair free trade agreements tat make Americans compete with third world slave labor otherwise there aren't enough good jobs for all.
51% of all babies born in the US are born under medicaid.
That's a lot of "truly needy people"
Are you factoring in that Medicaid has been expanded in many states? So, many people are working and still qualify for Medicaid. Up to 138% of poverty level and you can qualify.
Sure, it sucks paying taxes, but in some ways it's nice that in this overpopulated nation there is a large swath of the population that is content to collect a small government check every month and spend it on booze and cigarettes and to watch daytime television from inside their trailer home or their Section 8 apartment. As long as the working class is able to wall itself off from the underclass, I think they're ok with this arrangement. It also makes it easier to succeeded since there's less competition for jobs.
Wait until blue collar Joe gets older, has medical issues and can no longer work. I've recently learned this with my elderly parent.
There are income limits for getting help in your elderly years and those income limits are very, very low, only people who've done little with their lives can qualify for that help... From cradle to grave! Make $0.01 cent above the income limit and the door gets slammed in your face. Blue collar Joe's kids have to take care of him and help pay while at the same time he is working to pay for everyone else to get help.
BUT, the poor who complain, get free medical care, free medication. If they go home your taxes pay for nurses to come in the home (20 hours a week). Blue collar Joe pays for their home modifications, stair glider, wheel chair, bathroom modifications etc. You subsidize their rent. Pay for their food, and on and on.
Blue collar Joe who gets to pay for it all will get no help.
It's really screwed up.
You exactly right! Add illegals to the mix and it's much much worse. I am willing to bet if we made the lazy folks on welfare work, built a fence and sent illegals home the amount of money left over would be more than enough to take care of our elderly.
I'm ready to take our country back and give it back to Americans regardless of the consequences. The elites want globalization to make themselves filthy freaking wealthy all at the expense of everyone in this country not in the top 1%. It's time to stop it in its tracks.
The process of taking it back will be ugly but necessary. Don't under estimate the power and influence of money and government. They will do anything and I mean anything to keep what they have. We will get our first taste of this at the GOP convention. Vote for someone willing to change ALL of it!

Yes, you should just cut them off completely. Maybe they will just go to the corner and curl up and die. Or maybe they will come see you for their necessities.
So what they are vets? If they are capable, they should do work.
They would if jobs were readily available.
I grew up in a bad area..Most of those folks want better for themselves, but have a ton stacked against them. Being poor isn't easy & def isn't a choice for most.
As far as welfare goes, I could care less. Very little of mine(& your) tax money is allocated for those "bums".

What? Totally FALSE. About $1 trillion per year is allocated for means-tested federal government public assistance programs (Medicaid, Food Stamps, etc., etc.) for the poor. That's about 30% of all federal spending.
Sorry, they have to do SOMETHING for the money....don't want to take a job? At least make them clean the streets, help the elderly, mow the elderly's lawns, pick up trash, clean government buildings, clean schools, something.....anything.....just don't give it away.
Obviously, this excludes the ill, mentally challenged (to a point), physically handicapped (to a point), and certain others but, there are MILLIONS that are more than capable of some level of work that simply refuse to do so....
While that's not perfect, you could cut their benefits off entirely if they don't do anything...figure out a task, assign them to it, use the rest of the underworked guvmint staff monitor and supervise.....just don't give it away....promotes the wrong attitudes.
Where I'm from in Appalachia, it's fairly common for multiple generations to have little work experience and be dependent on government. For people like this, working and the structure required by it is an alien concept.
Most entitlement benefits actually go to seniors, the disabled, or the working poor. The issue with "jobs creation" as a blanket solution is that unemployment is already low, but many people are only able to get part time or low paying jobs. Wages need to be raised. Companies do not share their profits like they use to.
Talk about sterilization is absolutely ****ing nuts. While we're at it, why don't we round everyone up and put them in concentration camps and force them to work.
