Leave it to BSNBC to turn any story into a race issue.

It won't because the shooter is not a white Asian.

I think if one innocent person died, and the person who killed that person was a cop, most would say the cop is automatically guilty. Not many people like or respect police officers, I have no ideas why. But it seems like this is the reality.

15 years, I guess accident is now a crime. I don't think this cop deserved this.

If my memory serves me right, this is the first time in 20 years of NYPD history a police was convicted for killing someone. It happened in a time when race tension between black and white is sky high and to an Asian, a race nobody gives a crap.

According to some Chinese forums, Chinese Americans in NYC, LA and other cities will hold protests on Feb 20.
They claim Peter Liang, as an Asian American, is a scapegoat for the system to ease the tension between the police and a certain population.

Maybe he is.

Doesn't stop the fact that he is still responsible for the death of an innocent life & chose not to do anything to help that person.

He let him die in that stairwell & his only concern was his job.

The Victim was walking down the stairs & the noise he made startled Peter.

Peter pulls the trigger(by mistake he says), and the bullet ricocheted off the wall & struck the victim in the chest

Now this is where it gets nasty.

The first thing Peter does is exit the stairwell & argue with his partner about what to do. He then decided it was best to phone his union rep.

Meanwhile, the victim is dying in the stairwell.

A 911 call was placed around 18-25 minutes AFTER the victim was shot. The call was placed by a neighbor that heard the victims girlfriends screams in the stairwell.

The 911 operator is telling the neighbor on the phone how to administer CPR to the victim & the neighbor is yelling this out of her apartment to the victims girlfriend.

All while this is happening Peter Liang & his partner are in the hallway with their union reps trying to save their jobs.
Thanks for the recap. I remember when this happened. This poor man was gunned down and suffered before he died at the hands of a an inexperienced and stupid cop. His supporters are basically saying he shouldn't be punished because other cops in the past didn't. Sad.

This statement is neither factual or truthful.

Of course it is a tragedy.
But should a man be sentenced to 15 years for an accident (and inappropriate conducts afterwards)?

And we all know in America race matters. If he is WASP, would it make a difference?

What isn't factual?

Peter Liang was responsible for the death of Akai. That is a fact.

Peter Liang did nothing to help Akai. That is a fact.
