recall the two of them had throwaway cellphones that they smashed and threw in the garbage.

The phone in question is the county's cellphone that he used for business.
You think he did "terrorist" business on a county government cellphone ?

Whatever communications these two had they had on the smashed up cellphones that were found in the garbage.

You can not separate the issues if you agree that the government is untrustworthy. If they are untrustworthy they can not be trusted to only snoop in cases like this one.

The only way you can recover is to erase your device and reset to factory data losing all of your data.

If you enter the wrong passcode in to an iOS device six times in a row, you'll be locked out and a message will say that your device is disabled.
..
Unless you made a backup before you forgot your passcode, there isn't a way to save your device's data. You'll need to erase your device, which deletes all of your data and settings.
Not true. You can set it to erase all data after 10 failed attempts. I've had iphones since the first one.

For all you guys saying that the FBI just wants Apple to unlock this one phone. That's not what Apple is stating in this release. I stand with Apple.

Customer Letter - Apple

So, they want apple to destroy their own security, build a backdoor and allow brute force attacks on their devices...... and people are okay with this...

That's right. This is just one of many instances where LE's want Apple to unlock phones.

Apple faces multiple court cases over iPhone password security

Apple is hindering prosecution by not creating the software. Have Tim Cook face a contempt of court prison term until he does. Apple can spin it anyway they want to but they are helping terrorists not be tried for their crime and future terror attacks to be better prepared. The rights of the many, supersede the rights of the few.

That's BS. This was the guys county government work phone.

The 2 cellphones that they did use they smashed up and threw in the garbage.

The USG already has access to his email, social media and all phone calls without it unlocked because that all is out on the web and intercepted by the NSA.
